3 Democrats left in TN governor's race
The campaigns of the three remaining Democratic candidates in the Tennessee governor's race are scrambling to consolidate their positions after two candidates dropped out this week.

State Sen. Roy Herron of Dresden decided to run for the 8th Congressional District seat shortly after Rep. John Tanner announced his plans to retire on Tuesday. Nashville businessman Ward Cammack dropped out on Thursday because "long-standing political alliances proved impenetrable and fund raising ground to a halt."

Democratic Gov. Phil Bredesen can't run again in 2010 because of term limits.

"I believe now more than ever that I am the front-runner for the Democratic primary and will carry a strong lead into the general election," Jackson businessman Mike McWherter said in an e-mail to supporters Thursday.
