Whether or not singles subsidize the married or the married subsidize singles, |
|
whether families with children or a home mortgage are subsidized doesn't matter squat. What really mattes is that all of us are subsidizing international corporations and the uber-rich (top 5%).

How are all of us subsidizing the top 5%? By the way, people make $150,000 are in your top 5% uber-rich category.

3. I might have my top percentage wrong, but who benefitted from the |

productivity increases of the last 30 years while real wages stagnated or fell?

2. Precisely. i will point out one thing though. I know that every year |
|
when I did my own taxes, I could look at the tax tables and see that if I was married, I would be paying less. This was in the years before all the whining about the phony marriage tax penalty. It doesn't matter how you want to rationalize it. There was no marriage tax penalty! There was and still is a single tax penalty. I don't mind that a chunk of my tax dollars go to fund public schools, even though I don't have any children using those schools. What I don't like, is that the people filling up the schools, actually get a tax break for doing so. I would like to see our government move away from any policies that encourage people to have large families. It used to be that it made sense, now it does not. I'd give people a larger deduction than they get now for their first child, no deduction for the second child and their tax rate would increase for their third child and any they had after that.

This antiquated tax policy no longer works in this modern world. And heaven help you if you ever complain. As a single, childless woman, I've been told that I am "just jealous and bitter" when I point out that the tax code discriminates against the single and childless. I don't ask anyone to subsidize my life choices, but apparently I am expected to do just that for others.

5. I actually don't mind it being somewhat to their advantage. |

It would be nice for them to recognize that fact and even things out a little. I can afford some tax to provide education. You actually encountered resentment from married people with children that envy your freedom. Sorry parents, I'm not into shitty diapers, snotty noses and screaming kids. My moto is "Be Your Own Kid." That's right, I do what I want, when I want and I get all the toys.

6. Hey, don't worry about that -- just stay focused on the act that both ... |
|
subsidize the richest Americans.
