I agree with what Gibbs said
It's a well known fact that if you are a political writer/columnist that the best way to get attention from the rest of the media is to bash the very people who should be your ideological allies.

Just watch how Conservative media outlets (meaning all of them) lavish attention on Leftist figures who trash Obama. I'm sure they care about the issues they are talking about and I'm sure they sincerely disagree when they speak up.

But the truth is that they know if they vocally support the President, they will get less attention -AND MAKE LESS MONEY. So I tend to see much of the criticism as grossly EXAGGERATED, because it is so ABSOLUTELY SELF-SERVING TO EXAGGERATE THE DISAGREEMENT TO GET ATTENTION.

At the same time, there are plenty of DUers who think THEY have the VERY SPECIFIC policy prescriptions this country NEEDS and anyone who disagrees is either stupid, sheep, or a corporate shill -President included, because only THEY are ALWAYS right and must EDUCATE the world so we all can be as awesome as them. They'll run with this Gibbs statement for months trying to convince us that our President hates us etc. etc. -ITS A LOAD OF DISHONEST, SELF-SERVING BULLSHIT. THIS PRESIDENT HAS WORKED HIS ASS OFF FOR THIS COUNTRY, and done a number of good things for this country and will continue to do so, so long as the radicals on the Left and Right don't stop him.

THIS COUNTRY IS MOVING TO THE LEFT, PIECE BY PIECE, WE ARE MAKING THIS A MORE JUST AND DECENT SOCIETY. THIS IS THE BEGINNING OF A NEW LIBERAL ERA IN AMERICAN POLITICS, you're either working towards it, or undermining it with short-sighted SELF-SERVING BS.

1. Specifics, please.
Define 'left' and point out what administration policies move us in that direction.

13. Another "Obama is Bush's Third Term" person that
seems to contradict the Obama critics who insist such foolishness does not occur with regularity here.

4. the handwringing, whining, crybaby internet "left" will never be happy
the only mistake Gibbs made was giving them attention. After all that is all they desire.

5. Well my rants to focus on jobs instead of healthcare was totally off base. Wow
Look at how wonderful our economy is after that transformational hcr bill passed. And it has already made a difference in millions and millions of people's lives, way more than would have been helped by a better jobs market.

8. We have had 30 years of Reagan and his progeny
This has brought us tax mythology, pre-emptive wars, deregulation, starve the beast, cronyism up the wazoo, debt up the wazoo, sheer incompetence, insane judges, 41 batshit crazy Senators, John Boehner, and on and on.

What made you think the fight would be over by now?

10. I'm not saying that they are beyond reproach
But my question is -even if Obama is wrong on a lot of things, at this particular moment, does it make sense for moving a Liberal agenda forward for to either scathingly criticize our leadership - or circle the wagons thru Nov? The funny thing is that I agree with the critiques, I'll be in a bunch better mood to hear about and agree upon these critiques in December when it's being discussed with a Congress full of Democrats that might actually want to do a few Liberal things, as opposed to having a Congress full of GOP Corporate shills because our own side did a better job of kicking Obama's ass than the other guys?

17. But they still don't get it.
Edited on Wed Aug-11-10 03:42 AM by dkf
Don't we need to criticize them so they get a clue? How else do they figure out how badly they've gamed this out?

If the stimulus had been faster and more effectively planned maybe the economy would be in a better shape so that raising the taxes on the upper end could be done. But putting a toothless HCR bill that did nothing for the recovery screwed up the whole order of things. Now we either mess with the recovery by raising taxes just when the economy is starting to falter or we piss off the base by continuing tax cuts for the rich which will kill enthusiasm.

The more I think about it the more I realize Obama messed up. He burned his Presidency on a mistake in prioritizing. Worst of all he failed to demonstrate that Democrats can implement good effective policy which to me was the rationale of why Democrats should be running the country. Because our programs look unsuccessful we did not earn the trust we needed to justify furthering our agenda.

Granted Republicans have no ideas. But we have ideas that don't work and are expensive. I'm not sure who wins in a case like that

how many drugs, for how long, does one have to take to make one so delusional? This country and party have moved so far right, Reagan would be to liberal to get elected as a Democrat.

In the primaries, support the most progressive candidate that can beat the Repub. But in the election, don't stay home, and don't vote Green.

OP is correct.

Folks outraged about this aren't outraged at what republicans do,
and that will be their mistake.

21. It is a huge exaggeration for the purpose of rhetoric to say Reagan is to the left of the shrub?
I don't think its that much of a leap, Bush did some outrageous stuff.

Maybe if they swapped Reagan could be worse but thet can only be conjecture and would fall well short of hyperbole in any event.

22. I'm living for the future, not so much the past.
I can't change what has happened, only work to make what is to come better.
I have children, and I have their backs......and unlike most, I also will
have this President's back as long as he is President.....because if he fails,
then my children's future is fucked. And for me, that's more important than those
who would rather see revenge as a means of teaching us a lesson; one that I have
already learned.....that politics is the art of the possible, not the art of screaming
louder than everyone else. We are in an environment where the media can make or break you...
(ask Dean, Gore, Kerry and even Kucinich and they will tell you)...so it ain't ever gonna be
about what one man can do. Those who want to only talk about everything this administration
does in the worse possible terms; they are the ones who are willing to stop progress to
prove their point, because for them, that's what is most important. That's just wrong,
and it is not a liberal ideal.

talked about.

Are you having trouble telling them apart too?
