There is a difference between holding Obama accountable & saying he is no different than Bush |
|
And that is why some of us who agree with and are defending Gibbs are saying.
It seems we no longer agree or disagree with people. We either like them or we don't like them.
I agree with what Gibbs said, BUT I DON'T THINK HE SHOULD HAVE SAID IT. He fucked up, but is he really the enemy? Does his criticism of the "professional left" mean he is saying they/we are the enemy?
I wish the White House would be more progressive, but I still enthusiastically support it.
I support and am fans of Michael Moore & Keith Olbermann, but I don't agree with their reactions to Gibbs' statement. They does not move me into the don't like them camp.
Maybe if we spent more time agreeing and disagreeing with folks ON OUR SIDE instead of liking or not liking them as a response to their actions we would be better off.

1. I'm still trying to figure out... |
|
how anyone who says Obama is no different than Bush DOES NOT need to be drug tested.
Nonetheless, I agree with your point. We must all stay fixed on the real political enemy. I believe that will become more and more clear from here until November.

3. Anyone who wanted to see a fundamental change in the "system" knew (or should have known) that |

was not what candidate Obama was pushing for. He still isn't. I think he has a desire and is attempting to reform our current system. The people on the right who think Obama is a socialist are, simply put, downright ignorant. If you're a socialist, you're probably going to ALWAYS find it difficult to align with the Democratic Party at-large. Personally, I would like to see the repubs go extinct, and the democratic party take the role of the "status-quo" with a little reform thrown in party. The dems would then have to go head to head with a true left/progressive party. The repubs have patently demonstrated their ignorant, greed-driven positions to the detriment of the U.S.A. They are good for no one but the rich.

I must have missed something. I thought that was exactly what he was campaigning about.

9. He certainly isn't opposed to capitalism as an economic system. He did talk about reforming the |
|
political system, i.e. limiting the influence of money, but is absolutely not opposed to our two party system.

The people who say that Obama equals Bush are dead wrong on that. So Gibbs was right. But so what? He should not have said it because the statement was widely misinterpreted to mean an attack on the left, which it was not, only that specific part of the left that say that Obama is no different from Bush.
Honestly the Republicans LOVE stuff like this, and I feel that there are operatives here making a huge deal out of this because, ahem, they have an agenda.
Also they are unrecommending this thread.
Having said that, I would prefer that Obama would have a more progressive slant.

6. Virtually no one has said he was "no different than Bush" |
|
People HAVE said that he was no different than Bush on specific issues, which is an entirely different statement. Or did I miss the closing of secret jails, the end of secret rendition, no longer assassinating American citizens, returning to the rule of law, the end of attacks on public education, the end of warrantless wiretapping, corporations being held accountable for their crimes, etc?
Gibbs is NOT on my side. Doesn't look like the White House is either. Guess the "Hold our feet to the fire" thing was just another broken campaign promise.

8. You agree with what Gibbs said? Then case should be closed |

and you wouldn't be backtracking and attempting to raionalize.
That's what a therapist would say.
