Jezzus Chrrist. To the Republicans and turncoat Democrats who voted against the long-term care insurance amendment, I say this.

Fuck You!!!!

Have you ever had an aged parent who you lost many nights of sleep about, because the cost of care for them will break you?

Fuck you all who voted against that. Fuck you.

2. Did something new just happen? If this is what you're talking about, the bill to kill it failed.

Senate votes to keep long-term care program

WASHINGTON – The Senate has voted to keep a new long-term care insurance plan in its health overhaul bill.

Republicans fell short in a bid to strike the voluntary insurance plan on a 51-to-47 vote. Sixty votes were needed to prevail.

A priority for the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, the program would help seniors and disabled people stay in their own homes and avoid going into nursing homes.

Workers would pay a modest monthly premium during the course of their careers. If they become disabled, they get a cash benefit of at least $50 a day. It can pay for a home care attendant, for supplies and equipment, to make home improvements such as new bathroom railings or defray nursing home costs.

4. I think you are confused. The republican amendment to add back
in the home health care funds failed. (I'm still scratching my head on that one because I want to know where the monies for home health will come from).

The long term care bill which is called the Community Living Assistance Services and Support Act, or Class Act is still a go.

5. My parents had good coverage
How much more impossible it would have been had this been a question. At UCLA, the best doctor said about my 89 year old mom, oh good she has good insurance, so we can do all the tests. What a heartbreak it would have been if they would have had to say, We can't give her our best. She had this good coverage from being an employee of the LA school district for years. Unions rock.
My dad died in a hospital in Porterville, California. Despite our pleas, he wouldn't go to UCLA. But at least he had the choice to make.
I can't imagine the devastation one would have to go through knowing their parent, sibling, or child was being denied the best care because of some greedy system.
When my husband died of a brain tumor ten years ago, there was a physician who refused to install a chemotherapy portal because we hadn't paid a $63 bill. That was so creepy I have never forgotten it.
I worry now about my kids having to take care of me in case I get sick....
One shouldn't have to think about these things in any kind of decent society.
