FL-SEN POLL: Meek crushing Greene by 14; Rubio edging out Crist
M-D Poll: Meek crushing Greene by 14; Rubio edging out Crist

An Aug. 9-11 by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research finds Kendrick Meek trouncing Greene, 40 percent to 26 percent, in the Democratic U.S. Senate primary. In the general election, Mason-Dixon (MoE =/-4%) has Marco Rubio with 38 percent, Charlie Crist with 33 percent, and Meek at 18.

4. Meek is absolutely not hopeless... up until the Dem primary.
He's only hopeless after that, as he trails Rubio by 20 in the GE. Crist only trails by 5.

After the primary, I suspect lots of civic-minded Dems will jump on the horse that can actually carry the day - and spank teabaggin' Rubio - in November.

6. The poll also shows Crist's support is falling.
This will destroy the argument that you have to destroy the Dems to save them(which is what Crist supporters will be doing, since they won't still be able to claim to be Democrats).

13. You only undercut your own hopes for Meek by saying that Crist's support is falling.
Florida Democrats do not want to see Rubio as their Senator and to reaffirm Jeb Bush's control of Florida politics.

Many Florida Democrats have sworn to vote for Crist if it looks like Rubio will win.

14. Exactly. If 38% to 33% is 'bad', what is 38% to 18%?
Meek has to show an ability to take his numbers at least to the high 20%'s by September 1, IMHO. We can even give him a break and extend it to September 15.

If he cannot get to over 1/4 support of the state of Florida by then, he is not a viable candidate. Florida is a huge state and to move the numbers he would need to move with six weeks to go if he is not at or above 25% is not even remotely realistic.

I don't think Meek gets there to be honest. I'd like him to get there, but I think his support tops out at around 20%.

At what point do the non-pragmatists acknowledge what is obvious to the rest of us?

18. I think what this poll says is, "Well, I've already decided not to vote for Meek in the General,
but I'll gladly show my support in the primary so that he isn't embarrassed by losing to Jeff Greene".

12. Sept 1 is the date I am looking at as to when I think folks should decide
If Meek shows some ability to close the gap by then, he should be the guy. If not, we have to go Crist IMHO.

9. How does he win with Crist in the race?
Crist is taking many of the voters Meek needs to win the general. It's not exactly realistic for a Democrat to win in circumstances like these.

16. Really? Is that what you get from that?
I know you were attempting sarcasm, but there needs to be an element of logic for it to be appreciate. Nice try though. ;)

3. Sounds good to this Northerner!
Wouldn't Meek/Crist be a 'good,' substantive 'debate?'

5. I'd be happy to have Kendrick Meek
Has he done something that I don't know about? I don't understand why he isn't getting more support.

7. He's been a good decent progressive congressman
He just got temporarily held back by the media-created Crist boomlet, a boomlet that is about to end now that Crist is losing to Rubio and will continue to lose to him.

8. I would have a very hard time voting for Crist
Edited on Sat Aug-14-10 07:52 PM by dsc
I think he is a lying hypocrite of the first order given his status as an almost surely gay man who is virtulantly anti gay in his positions. If he is that much a hypocrite about his life, why trust him at all? oops, big mistake.

15. My local litter box liner posted polls today from mid-July to fully
illustrate how Greene was "crushing" Meek.

Meek is finally getting a little more face time and it's paying off so far. For now I just want to see a primary win.

20. Meek's surge in the polls is interesting.
I suspect there will be a lot of movement in the polls for the field. It appears Floridians' best move may be waiting until a few days before the election before committing to a strategy. It would be huge if Meek can pull it out, a preferable vote I think as opposed to the less attractive strategic vote for Crist.
