"Here's my assessment of not just the vote in Massachusetts, but the mood around the country..." |
|
Just a reminder. Let's make sure we aren't burying our heads in the sand as November approaches. :hi: From last January: ...The president also said the same voter anger that swept him into office in 2008 carried Brown into office on a stunning upset victory Tuesday night over heavily favored Democrat Martha Coakley.
"Here's my assessment of not just the vote in Massachusetts, but the mood around the country: the same thing that swept Scott Brown into office swept me into office," the president said in an exclusive interview with ABC News' George Stephanopoulos. "People are angry and they are frustrated. Not just because of what's happened in the last year or two years, but what's happened over the last eight years." 1. I also remember the meme that "health care is dead" after that election |
|
So go figure, and your point is well taken.

2. I have to disagree with Obama--Scott Brown oozed, lied, and stole his way |
|
to the Senate. It helped that his opponent was a dead fish too--a mistake we won't be making next time.

3. From what I saw on the ground, the President is 100% correct. |
|
The feeling, among life-long Democratic voters and lefty independents alike was, "Fuckitall, why bother any more? All anyone wants is our vote, then they forget about us."
It's true that Coakley ran a crappy campaign, and it's true that Brown was... well, just plain crap.
But the atmosphere of angry frustration with DC was there first, and it was toxic, just poisonous. Smothering.
A better campaigner could have overcome it, by tapping into the voters' anger and frustration.
Unfortunately, that's what Brown did, while Coakley allowed her hands to be tied by the party line. :(
That's what made
