New York’s Mayor Bloomberg endorsing Sestak
Democratic Senate candidate Joe Sestak, under fire from Republican opponents as a liberal for voting most of the time with his party's leadership, is set to receive an endorsement Tuesday from independent New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Campaign strategists hope that Bloomberg's reputation for nonideological government will reinforce their argument that Sestak, a former Navy vice admiral in his second House term, is a pragmatic problem-solver rather than a partisan warrior.

Bloomberg plans to campaign with Sestak at the Progress Plaza development in North Philadelphia on Tuesday at 9:45 a.m., though the mayor's recent strong but unpopular support for the right of a Muslim group to build a mosque near the site of the 9/11 attack in New York could drown out the endorsement message.

"Mayor Bloomberg is someone who represents the same approach to public service I believe in - let's solve the problem, take ideas from both sides, and resolve issues in a pragmatic way," Sestak said Sunday in a brief interview. "It's an honor."

1. Bloomberg: looks like he's on the move again.

Every political utterance is carefully calibrated. Longtime Bloomberg watchers know this.

1. There was a ( planted, in my considered opinion) story about a week and a half or so in NYT ( his favorite place to plant). It was of the generic, " Bloomberg Emphatically Denies Rumors of WH Bid in 2012" variety. His PR guys do this every 4 years...i.e. go to the press w. "denials" in order to create a buzz. ( Do you know *anyone*, ANYONE in the United States that was talking about Bloomberg as presidential material before the 'media' started buzzing bout it?)

2. Then the celebrated speech about the "mosque" at "ground zero". ( Written by paid staff but, admittedly, uncharacteristically well delivered by Bloomberg... complete with the choking up and holding back tears. Bravisssimo!)

3. Now he's endorsing Sestack.

He's moving back to the left, folks; well he moving TOWARD the left, heading one senses toward someplace near Obamaville...a t least in the same county, if not the same zip code.

This is a good spot for the moment. He can inch this way or that way depending on developments. An independent, mega $$$$$ run or a chance to squeeze aboard as Obam's veep? The national GOP days seem behind him.

A shame: all those millions spent on GWB ; essentially for nothing.

Mayor Hole in the Ground said this. Yikes. The world we live in.
