GOP Prepares to Ratchet Up Attacks on Obama
Edited on Wed Aug-18-10 06:50 PM by babylonsister
Consultants Say Republicans Are More Inclined to Attack Obama Directly Now
By David M. Drucker, CQ-Roll Call

With job approval numbers hovering in the mid-40s, President Barack Obama and his signature legislative achievements have become potent political assets for Congressional Republicans in their quest to flip the House and Senate in the midterm elections.

Interviews with several GOP consultants this week revealed varying strategies for trying to expose Obama’s perceived political weaknesses, depending on the districts or states their clients are running in. Some say attacking Obama personally remains too “risky,” and these operatives are advising candidates to target Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and the Democratic Congress. Other Republican strategists are urging clients to attack “Washington and everything associated with it.”

Yet the emerging consensus among Republican strategists — which they attribute to a read of private and public polling of individual House and Senate races — is that victory on Nov. 2 will require targeting Obama directly. Democratic operatives concede the president’s weak numbers but dispute the GOP’s claim that this factor will negatively affect their candidates. Obama’s average national job approval rating from Aug. 5 through Monday was 45.3 percent, with 50.7 percent disapproving, according to RealClearPolitics.com.

But then everyday I say "How much lower can they go?" We see the answer to that every day-and they get rewarded, not punished, for their behavior. I really have given up.

I really think this will be my last post. Bye all.

6. Maccagirl,
if you read this, please just take a break and check in when there's good news, like there was tonight. The rethugs are the problem, not DU (for the most part). And they will get theirs eventually. Just hope all their theatrics backfire.

7. Their theatrics are already backfiring...
All they have is attack PO, they have nothing else, zip, zilch.

Their entire scheme is making PO look bad, they have nothing else. This is like the "Know Nothings", ask a serious question and there is no answer. I do not expect R's to make any gains this year, I'm figuring they actually lose seats; an election cannot be won on negativity alone, but the R's have nothing positive to offer...this is it, "Obama bad!"

I saw Dick Armey on C-Span yesterday, and I could not get a call through, I wanted to ask him why he didn't burst into flames the way he was lying, (this is the first time I actually got to hear him in a setting other than sound bites, the man is as stupid as a stick...:eyes: )

8. Ya'
and President Obama and the Democrats need to be driving home how the GoP champion the interests of the most wealthy minority at the expense of the overwhelming majority of the US population. All they need to do is detail their agenda, what they have obstructed, and most importantly how they have voted.

I really can't see anyone practically voting for these mass of Wall Street lackeys unless they happen to be among the nations' most wealthy.

9. The professional bribe takers
dragged out the health care debate because the insurance lobby was forking over $1.4 million a day to garner influence over the legislation affecting them. The longer it went on the more bribe money was spent.
Had the stinker health care bill been passed in 30 days instead of a year, the Democrats could have gotten to work on job creation in time for a positive reaction before the midterm elections.
They were blinded by greed, and we are on the verge of a 1994 replay.
One of the trademarks of the Democratic Party is to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
On the upside: With the Supreme Court's Citizens United ruling I don't have to feel bad for not sending money to self defeating Democrats.
Say goodbye to democracy. Our government has been seized by gangsters posing as politicians.
It's as if the President hung a "kick me" sign on his own back.
