RW + GOP thought all D presidents since FDR were illegitimate |
|
The right has not thought any Democratic president since FDR was a legitimate president. In other words, they think the GOP is ENTITLED to the presidency, is ENTITLED to run the country. Therefore, according to them, the Democrats "stole" the presidency from its lawful "owner." the GOP, anytime a Democrat is president.
Sure, there's a lot of dislike of Obama personally--because he's black, because he lived in Indonesia and his step-father is/was a Muslim. he's progressive (or, horrors, a liberal). Also, and this is a real biggie, he has the nerve to be INTELLIGENT. And he doesn't loose his "cool" when he's under constant attack--from the right, from the left, from the media, etc, etc, etc.
But it all boils down to one thing--HE'S A DEMOCRAT and therefore has no right to be president.

1. Ain't it funny that we treated W with more legitimacy and he didn't even win in 2000... |
|
...and who knows what happened in 2004. But 2000 was definately a scam and yet, we acknowledged that he was President and even mostly stood behind him right after 9/11 happened.
If we ever treated them the way they have treated us...

2. Nor in 2004 if the investigation got it correct when |

they said the electronic voting machines in Ohio, which were so out of kilter with the real results, went thru Rove's set up of servers in the white house.

5. Yea, I dunno. There was some funny business here, but Ohio IS a very 50/50 state. |
|
And the Repugs stirred up the base really good that year with the anti-gay marriage amendment.

3. It's both reasons...his black and a democrat. |
|
I could buy "its only because his a democrat" if I thought that black republicans were respected by them. I remember when Steele ran here in MD as a black republican candidate. I heard many of my father's friends admit they would never vote for him because he was black. Despite the fact that he shared their same views.

4. The right wing never accepted FDR either. |
|
This is the truth. The right wing believes that the GOP is the owner of the Presidency. That is arrogance of the worst kind.

7. Very true, the RW even plotted to overthrow FDR and install a fascist government |
|
Edited on Mon Aug-23-10 09:13 PM by ShadowLiberal
There's a once censored book about a bunch of CEO's from the biggest companies in America at the time trying to overthrow FDR, similar to how other governments were overthrown and replaced with a fascist dictator during the depression. I can't remember the name of the book.
A bunch of really rich people from some of the biggest companies in America at the time tried to convince a retired general to rally troops/Americans (I forget which) to basically march to the white house and overthrow the president and set up their own fascist government (that would of course be much more friendly to big business). The general however turned on the plotters and told congress about the plot, though no one was ever prosecuted over it.

6. it's uncomfortable calling fellow Americans Racist |
|
I get it. But when you have the wingnuts having issues with how Michelle does her daughter's hair and the msm regurgitating it, there is a racist element. It's uncomfortable for some people, even progressives,to deal with. That is why it is more comforting to excuse it as, "well they have treated all democratic presidents the same way," when some of their own family members may exhibit these actions.

They did not accept him either. They still hate him, for that matter.
