Vice President Joe Biden blasted House Republican Leader John Boehner today, saying the Ohio Republican seeks a return to the economic policies of the George W. Bush era that led to higher budget deficits and a financial crisis.

"Mr. Boehner is nostalgic for those good old days but the American people are not," Biden said today in a speech at the White House. "We've seen this moment before ... and we know how it ends."

Biden criticized Boehner for seeking to extend all of the Bush-era tax cuts, including those for the wealthy; the vice president said extending the wealthy tax cuts would damage efforts to rein in the budget deficit.

Boehner said it's a mistake to raise anybody's taxes in an economic downturn.

though there comes a time when late more or less equals never.

Hopefully for Americans, that time's not too late to sink in.

Fact of the matter is that half a bridge didn't (and many of us with modest math skills knew wouldn't) do it with the stimulus and other policies.

And now, as we predicted, it's time to sell how it could (and would) have been worse.

Tough sell, that.
