Kendrick Meek had 10% more votes than Rick Scott. That bodes |
|
well for him (Meek). Charlie Crist might be in trouble here (I). Scott spent 50 million dollars on the primary...

1. Keep pushing this info. |

I think we have a few trial lawyer types who are trying to lobby their cause a little too forcefully. We need numbers to think clearly.

4. Of the 1.25 million votes cast in Republican Senate primary, Rubio got 1.05 million votes. |
|
Edited on Wed Aug-25-10 08:54 AM by flpoljunkie
http://enight.elections.myflorida.com/contestdetails.aspx?con=120001Rubio is a formidable contender with Crist losing Democratic votes to Meek from black voters and Dems who do not want Rubio to win. In the Democratic Senate primary, Meek received 522,982 (57.51%) of the 909,307 votes cast. http://enight.elections.myflorida.com/contestdetails.aspx?con=120002Meeks has three weeks to prove himself, if that. I wish him luck.

5. And Rubio didn't have a primary opponent (since Crist left the race) so actually |
|
the result of the primary seems to be good news for Rubio if he can still get over a million people to come out and vote for him when he is unopposed. I hope Meek wins, but frankly if he is running third in October I think many dems will decide to vote for Crist as the best way to stop Rubio.

|
So even if Crist gets ALL of the non-A-A democratic votes he still can't win. The best hope to defeat Rubio is to get behind Meeks. Splitting dem votes in general is suicidal.

I asked him what he would do if it looked like it was a two man race between Rubio and Crist and he said he would vote for Crist. Meek seems like a good guy but a vote for Meek is a vote for Rubio as Crist is every Meek voter's second choice.

I have come to the conclusion that too many people just don't understand the dilemma we are facing here in Florida!
I know Democrats who already told me they are voting for Crist BECAUSE OF RUBIO!
UNLESS, Meek can get MORE than MEEK, many Floridians will take Crist over RUBIO because we simply CANNOT let RUBIO win!!
Time will tell how far Meek can go, but from what many have seen already, he just doesn't seem to be on a path to victory! He's going to have to REALLY dazzle and dazzle VERY QUICKLY!!
I have yet to even see even any real twinkle! And, I'm one who really NEEDS to see a lot more out of him, AND I as a Democrat AM NOT ALONE!!
So many here are calling those of us who have a real FEAR about Rubio some sort of turn coats because we may vote for Crist if Meek doesn't get his numbers up. I suppose you'd have to live here and get out and mingle with others to truly understand WHAT we are talking about! And I do get out and mingle and ask questions. I'm sure I don't like what I'm hearing, still I can't CHANGE IT! Meek will have to CHANGE IT!!
It is what it is!!!!

Turnout in a primary is not necessarily linked to turnout or voting patterns in the general election.

21. It means something everytime that a pundit on cable "news" claims |
|
that primary turnout for Republicans is much higher than for Democrats. :sarcasm:
Which is an interesting claim since for our governors race in MN, the 3rd place Democratic candidate got just shy of the number of votes the first place Republican candidate did. Dems in 1st and 2nd place got many times more votes than either.
In Rand Paul's race, he also came in like 3rd on votes cast behind 2 Democratic candidates. But somehow we keep hearing about how it proves Republicans are more enthusiastic because they have higher voter turnout at the primaries. HUhmmm.

12. I Was Hoping Greene Won (From A Strategic Point Of View) |
|
He would have been much easier for the Democrats to abandon in the Fall.
Crist is every Meek voters' second choice. Meek divides the anti-Rubio vote.
Oh well, if Florida can endure Paula Hawkins it can endure Marco Rubio.

15. Agreed. This guy was counted out and came back from being substantially down |
|
in the polls to beating Greene handily despite the money that Greene pumped into the race.
I don't understand why DUers and Democrats are counting Meek out because he even has the chance to prove that he is a viable candidate to me.
Is it really about race?
Is Crist really trustworthy? Are Democrats sure they want to support Charlie Crist? Can they count on him to caucus with the Democrats should he win?
We need to be very careful what we wish for.
Support the true, reliable Democrat in this race, not a fake wanna-be who I believe is an opportunist.

16. Meek was never counted out. Greene had a splash when he jumped in, but once people found out |
|
what a scumbag and opportunist he was, Meek's numbers went right back up.
Meek is running against two formidable opponents in Crist and Rubio. Rubio because all the tea baggers and rethugs are super, super excited about him. Crist is a center-ist governor, who has won state wide elections and is pretty popular with independents and conservative democrats.
Crist and Rubio are already taking up the about 75% of Florida voters. This doesn't leave much room for Meek to grow support. A large portion of Florida democrats are conservative, and not progressive, hence they will not vote for Meek if Crist is an option.

18. Kendrick Meek doesn't bode well for Kendrick Meek |
|
Weak candidates don't spring shocking general election upsets in an unfriendly climate.
Meek never would have been in trouble in the primary if he were a stalwart choice. You always handicap vulnerability. It's like a tennis player who was 2 sets down and desperately rallies to survive. The press may gush about his willpower but the variables that placed him 2 sets down are still there, and ready to be exposed by a superior opponent. In this case, two of them, Crist and Rubio. Down a set to Jeff Greene was pathetic. Meek didn't seem to grasp that. He was gleeful on primary night, like he had accomplished something, other than avoid world record embarrassment.
Frankly, Greene erred by splashing himself all over the airwaves too early. An upstart primary candidate needs to time his move to peak in name recognition and curiosity just before the vote. Greene was already a tired face on the screen months ago, talking sideways out of his mouth. Rick Scott did a much better job saving his cash for optimum benefit toward August.
Unfortunately, Rubio isn't a farce like Angle or Paul. You're not going to beat him with a stablemate.

22. But how can Rubio lite be considered "our hope?" Look back at his whole |
|
record. He was very right wing until recently. Now he has moved left to try to get elected. But history shows that when a politicians does that, after they get in office they return to their old positions. The exception might be Specter, but he is angling for a job in the administration after he leaves office.
We need to give up these fantasies about Crist and work for a true Democrat, Congressman Meek.
