Murkowski takes shot at Palin as she still lags in primary count
Murkowski on Tuesday night took a shot at Palin, saying that when Palin resigned as governor last summer she said she would use her new national role to help out Alaska.

"I think she's out for her own self-interest. I don't think she's out for Alaska's interest," Murkowski said as she waited at her campaign headquarters for results to come in.

15. Both sides are giving her credit.
In fact... the reason that Murkowski is holding out hope that she can pull through on the absentee ballots is that a few thousand of them were mailed back prior to the "tea" push and Palin's calls. So they hope that they had a large lead there.

This presupposes that the push was VERY effective.

3. Sounds like a sore loser to me
Palin promoted her opponent and the opponent appears to have won the primary.

I'm sure Palin will be quick to state that Miller will help Alaska if he wins.

4. She's being truthful
Murkowski is one of Palin's political enemies, it's not like the primary is the only reason Murkowski said this.

16. Can't possibly happen... but she might grab enough to push it to us.
No word yet on what the race looks like with the current candidates. She almost certainly can't win (likely as a write-in candidate), but if she can pull a few points from Miller maybe she can push the race toward us.

Heck... just remaining publicly bitter would help. :)

21. Of course not.
And of course I want to win the seat... but there isn't anything to go on yet that says we have a shot now. Your post is at best premature.

1) - We don't know what Murkowski isn't the candidate yet. It's a long shot for her at this point, but most of the absentee ballots were cast before the tea ad blitz and Palin calls. It's possible that there are enough votes there to be had.

2) - She has few options for mounting a real run on her own (which could make the race a potential pickup for us). And if she isn't in the race...

3) Nothing says that our candidate is competitive enough for this to make a difference. I expect PPP will come out with a poll showing it close enough that he can at least raise a few dollars, but there need to be two or three legit polls showing a reasonable gap before we "have a shot at Alaska"

I'm rooting for Murkowski to go third party, you've got a problem with that? If she does, it would give a shot there. Even if she doesn't, this lunatic Miller is so fringe we still might even have a shot if we can get the resources.

It's so cute how your hang on my every word! Just like a cute little puppy dog!

She doesn't really have an option of going 3rd party.
Edited on Thu Aug-26-10 04:03 PM by FBaggins
Your "rooting" aside.

The only ballot line she could hold would be the libertarian party (which already has a candidate). There's no indication that they have any interest in her. They've made polite noise, but she really doesn't line up with libertarian voters in Alaska.

Should I be surprised that you won't can't deal with the substance of the argument?

Amid speculation that she might run as a write-in or third-party candidate if she loses—a scenario that would jeopardize control of an otherwise safely Republican seat—Murkowski told reporters in Anchorage that it was "too premature" to discuss that option.

25. She can only run Indie as a write-in candidate
And those votes are rarely even counted.

Her best shot is on the Libertarian line (presuming she doesn't win the primary). The leadership of that party is making noise re: considering it... but it likely wouldn't be popular with the rest of the party.

Also - the speculation is based entirely on her staffers who are looking into the possibility. She hasn't said anything. We don't know yet that she has Lieberman or Crist's ego.

Edited on Thu Aug-26-10 04:23 PM by Beetwasher
She's got options to continue should she lose and should she choose to continue. Why, even more than one option it seems! She could go Libertarian, she could go write in. I wonder if she could pull a Lieberman and start her own party so she could get on the ballot??? GO LISA!

Now, about your infatuation with me, cupcake. You're obviously enthralled with me, what's with you being so shy? I'm easy *wink wink*

27. Again with the poor grasp on reality, eh?
She isn't going to run a write in campaign (and if she did it wouldn't come close to impacting the final results). The "sore loser" stigma added on to the existing "daddy gave me the seat" stigma would ruin her and hurt the family name. She's plenty young enough to run for the other Senate seat and/or later for governor.

She either picks up the libertarian line or doesn't continue.

To make it simpler - she isn't going to run just to hand the race over to us. She would only continue if she thought she could win. A write-in campaign doesn't do that for her.
