GOP in turmoil in FL: McCollum "reserving judgement" on who he will support in November |
|
Well, it is now pretty damned evident why the Florida Republican Party decided on primary day to cancel their unity rally. The vanquished gubernatorial candidate, state Attorney General Bill McCollum, is "reserving judgment" on who he will support in November
It is pretty hard, seeing this video, seeing an opening by which McCollum and Scott will find a way to make common cause. The question now, of course, is where McCollum's voters go. Remember that Tom Jensen noted this just last month:
Just how divisive has this Republican primary gotten? Among people planning to vote for Bill McCollum, Scott's favorability is 4% with 62% viewing him unfavorably.
Given how late the Florida primary is scheduled, how much rehabilitation with McCollum supporters will Scott be able to enjoy before November?
Especially when Alex Sink, the Democratic nominee, plans on making the very Medicare fraud issue McCollum expressed reservations about a central issue all the way through the election.
Despite the amenable climate for Republicans, here is a high-profile Republican that is in deep, deep trouble.

2. nobody is denying that--he also has high negatives, and ethical problems |
|
which Sink will exploit in the GE.

3. republicans are quick to forgive ethical problems . . . even those that stem from |
|
public bathroom encounters.
Let's hope Sink has nothing in her closet. I like her a lot so far and she is running a clean campaign - but you know the R's in Florida will fall for any ploy to justify voting according to party lines.

4. I think the Tea Party will divide the Repubs by November... |
|
Alaska, Florida, and Utah are only the most overt examples. Repubs are usually united by general election time, but this time, I have my doubts. It's going to be fun to watch, I think?

5. The republicans will be out to vote for anyone with an R by their name. The teabaggers |
|
are the republican party, so there can't be a division.
