Ah, shit -- "The Alvin Greene manifesto for a fairer America"
Recently, the millionaires' club known as the US senate voted to cut off unemployment benefits for millions of Americans. One senator called unemployment insurance a "necessary evil".

He got that half right.

Do any of these fat cats know what it's like to be unemployed? To not know how you will feed your children and pay your mortgage?

I'm unemployed, and, if elected, I can teach the Harvard rich kids in the White House and the senate a thing or two. I will vote for any law and propose any measure to keep jobs in my state of South Carolina. I will vote for huge tariffs, and, if necessary, vote to ban imports of foreign goods. Millionaire egghead politicians in the pocket of big business talk about "free trade" – and let all of your jobs get shipped overseas.

No more free trade. Your job is not going to Indonesia.

I will stop house foreclosures. Big banks got their bailout. Their debt was forgiven – and you paid for it. Their executives got million-dollar bonuses.

Did they forgive your debt? Did you get a bonus?

Remember the parable of the unmerciful servant: a servant owed the king a large sum, and the king forgave him his debt. But then the servant went to another man who owed him a small amount. The man couldn't pay, so the servant had him thrown into prison. When the king found out, he said, "I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to. Shouldn't you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?" Then the king had the servant tortured until he paid back all he owed.

I will break up the big banks. I will put them out in the street, just as they want to put you out in the street. Those bankers who committed fraud will do hard time.

In the Guardian, no less(!)...LOL I didn't even know he was running for office over there...

Has a lot of good, old-fashioned, well-worn populist/socialist tenets in his "manifesto"...I'm really supposed to beleive that someone with his background and beliefs won a statewide primary in SOUTH FUCKING CAROLINA?? The state where anyone to the left of the KKK is a liberal godless communist muslin terrorist??

2. 40% behind DeMint
Demicratic whip Jim Clyburn (who is African-American) announced he will not vote for him. Most Dems I know plan to vote for the Green Party candidate.

11. and even by some miracle if he were to close the gap
Greene still has the sexual indecency charge hovering over his head, and I have a feeling an interesting story related to Greene's army discharge is already crafted and ready for release, if needed...

8. He actually is very educated and I've heard him be very coherent at one event, sure some negatives

but how many does 'Mr Waterloo' DiMint have? I mean how much scandal do Gingrich, Ensign, and Vitter have there still up there having done far more at taxpayer expense. I admit he is an enigma but he may actually be a better Senator than people imagine. If Trafficant can get elected, so can Alvin it's more a case of keep out the even more crazy Republicans. So when I say Alvin...

Check out his bio in this Guardian interview.

9. I still say he's a stooge...
He could hardly put two words together in his earlier TV interviews...Not to mention there was no specific details on his political platform at all...And now all of a sudden he has this concise, well-crafted leftist manifesto on the Guardian?? You're telling me that someone with his alleged views could win a primary in S.C.?

Anyone is better than DeMint, but let's be honest about Greene's chances -- Has DeMint even needed to bother campaigning? The fact that the GOP hasn't been in full attack mode from the start is the simplest indicator that they have been propping Greene up from the start to take an easy fall...For all his alleged support, is Greene getting flooded with fundraising contributions? Has he even BEEN fundraising??

10. A well-meaning GOP consultant probably did it...

I can't put my finger on it, but his statement reeks on the authenticity scale the more I read it... The longtime liberal ideas are there, but it's surprisingly passionless for such a populist statement... It's too neat...Too vague and bland...

Reminds me of the lawyer-speak monotone apology that a pro athlete reads at a press conference after a run-in with the law...

Never mind the most important point: WHO in fuck's name puts this in the Guardian, where no one in their readership is voting in the race?? Has this run in any state/local papers or stations?
