3. I wish we knew regionally what his totals were--for instance he might be in the 30's in the South |
|
which means in other regions he is probably over 50.

the point about some of the folks here on DU--they don't want Obama to succeed.

6. Yep...them and Jim DeMint and the rest of the GOP.... |
|
and of course big business and the media.
That's a whole lot of folks wishing for failure of just one man. Sad.

12. Yup. Rasmussen has Obama at 48% approval, and has had Obama's approval numbers |
|
higher than Gallup has had Obama's approval numbers for quite a while!

now is the time to bring the "rollout" of new ideas, such as nominating Elizabeth Warren.

10. I emailed Chuck Todd about this since we have an on-going conversation about this... |
|
Edited on Wed Sep-01-10 01:48 PM by jenmito
When I pointed out to him that on Morning Joe, they show the BAD poll numbers like clockwork, but when the numbers improve, they never mention it, he agreed with me and said that although HE doesn't take the Gallup Daily Tracking Poll (or ANY daily tracking poll) that seriously, his motto is, "Live by the Gallup Tracking Poll, Die by the Gallup Tracking Poll," and that Joe Scarborough and others who DO show the numbers when they're bad, should also show them when they're good.
Last time this happened, Chuck told me he'd tell Joe about it, but Joe was off for a couple days. So I wrote to him today and will see what happens.

Of course, I expect him to plunge back below the line in the future. He'll fluctuate. Just important to remember he bounces around and rarely stays submerged for long!

14. So now you all like Gallup? |
|
As of yesterday Gallup was just another Rasmussen or that it was too early to pay attention to the polls but now that has changed?
That is called cherry picking my friends.

if a poll has a particular slant in one direction, and this bias is real, consistent, and measurable, than any movement in a favorable direction, is still movement in a favorable direction once that bias is corrected for.
Why? Because of simple mathematics. Let's suppose Xr= the real value of some quantity, and Xm is the measured quantity. Working from the assumption the Xr(t)=Xm(t)+e, where e is some bias, and t is time, then Xr(t_final)-Xr(t_initial) = Xm(t_final)-Xm(t_initial), as the e's will subtract off.

15. And I think he will get a bump from last night's speech |
|
I was prepared for it to be an eye-roller, but I really thought it was good tonally and substantively. I was uber-surprised that Shields and Brooks (PBS commentators) were so negative?
We can only hope! Some coattails would also be nice!

Remember too the better Obama Is doing the worse Republicans will do In November. While the MSM may Ignore history He Is a refressher
1982(reagan at 42)-Democrats pick up 26 House seats and 1 senate seat
1994(Clinton Is between 35 to 40 depending on the poll)-Republicans pick up 54 House seats and 8 Senate seats
2006(Bush Is at about 36 percent)-Democrats pick up 30 House seats and 6 Senate seats
we now have a few polls that have Obama around 47 to 48 Percent approval yet we are suspose to think Obama Is a bigger drag than Bush or Reagan were.Obama Is more popular than the great saint reagan was In 1982.Even back In 1994 Republicans did not pick up 10 Senate seats. In 1994 don't forget Democrats had the House for 40 years and there was a number of House leaders caught In Corruption. While 2 Dems has ethics charges against them It Is nowhere like It was In 1994.We could have a 1982 situation where Republicans win a number of house seats but Democrats keep the majority.
for the record I have always been a bit skeptical Democrats would lose the House In 2010.Now when Obama has a disapproval over approval by 10 that made be neavous. But If Obama going Into the midterms has 47,48 approval rating then a 1982 result could be likely.

23. Dunno if the poll numbers reflect last night's speech. |
|
I thought last night's speech was pretty decent, though I suspect the Gallup poll was done before the speech.
So we very well might get more of a bump in the next couple days.
