The Choice: History only repeats itself if you let it!
Political ads to be projected onto downtown buildings

UPDATE: AFSCME spokeswoman Megan Lubin now says the films will be projected on the side of the Amway Center “at or a little after dusk.”

Even if you unplug the TV and stay away from the mailbox, you’re going to have a hard time avoiding campaign ads this season.

Tonight, the big labor group AFSCME will project a campaign video spot onto the side of buildings in downtown Orlando. Called “The Choice,” the 1 minute, 17 second video highlights what the union feels would be the consequences of returning Republicans to power in Congress: jobs moved overseas, tax cuts for the rich and tax breaks for the oil industry, and the privatization of Social Security.

The ad, which you can see below, doesn’t mention any candidates. But the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees chose Orlando as one of 10 sites for its multi-city “Main Street Film Festival” because of the threat to freshman Democrat U.S. Reps. Alan Grayson in the 8th District and Suzanne Kosmas in the neighboring 24th.

Grayson has hammered Republican opponent Dan Webster over a remark that seemed to indicate he would rescind recent cost-of-living increases for Social Security recipients. Webster has since backed away from that remark.

“We wanted to show the film in districts where the consequences are highest for voters this fall,” said Karl Stark, campaign coordinator for AFSCME in Washington, D.C.
