Chris Matthews just proposed that President Obama replace Gates with Hillary Clinton. |
|
The way he put it made a lot of sense.

15. True - the problem is that many of the retreads from Clinton WH have pulled Obama rightward into |
|
the Triangulation Triangle. And Hawk Hillary is doing exactly that as an extra hawk vote for the prowar group.

Clinton marginalized the same people that Obama then anointed with too much power and too much access to the microphone. Obama has owned those choices from day one no matter how much excuse making you like to push.
And for your continual Hillary swill - don't you ever choke on your repetitive bile?

That rumor has been flying around for weeks now. And that's probably just what it is: a rumor.
It just shows how bad the party is doing that rumors are flying in every direction about Hillary replacing Biden in 2012, taking over for Gates, etc.
The one job she should have had is the one that won't be available for a few years.

Those Clintonites here complaining about Obama on matters where he is emulating Clintons' tactic of rolling over towards RW positions are doing so disingenuously.

Get OVER it already! She would've been way to the right of Obama, which only would've made the neocons happy. Where she is NOW, implementing OBAMA'S policies, is a good place for her.

Obama was overrated and not fully vetted. Speeches about "hope and change" may be inspiring, but they do not produce jobs or put food on the table.
Competence and experience do matter.
The other week in the Hamptons Bill and Hillary were dancing at Bill's 64th birthday party. Jon Corzine was watching them, he's a neighbor of mine, and musing about what it could have been. He made a comment to the effect that "she would have known how to handle Congress". He then added, "but it was Obama's time".
I know that you love the man, but plenty of Dem politicians are not happy with the WH at the moment.
Take care, I'm off for the long weekend.

"Obama was overrated and not fully vetted." Obama was one of the most fully vetted candidates ever. Your candidate helped with that. I bet you think he's a "secret Mulsim," too. :eyes: Obama has already accomplished more in his first year and a half than most modern presidents accomplished in their entire presidencies.
But keep dreaming of what could've been while Obama keeps working to improve our country. :hi:

34. If Hillary had been nominated and elected |
|
we'd now be seeing the same level of attacks against her from the right. The words might be a little different, but the tone would be the same. They won't be happy until they're back in charge - permanently.
As for the OP, no, I don't think she'd be appropriate for Defense because of her lack of military background. She's doing a fine job at State: if she moves, it should be to Justice - or even the Supreme Court.

39. Citing Corzine as a reference on this is not a good move |
|
Christie only won because of the low approval ratings Corzine had and the completely awful race he ran - against a fundamentally unlikable Republican, who was pushed OUT of the Freeholder's position he had by fellow Republicans.
It is silly to claim that Hillary would have been far better. The fact is that Obama GOT HCR passed, something that she led on trying to do when Bill was President. The fact is that she did not have one Democrat on the Finance committee willing to back her plan. Yet, she refused to back any alternatives that were suggested - by people like Bradley, who had far better liberal credentials - and he was also your Senator.
There have been plenty of people who came close to being President - Gore and Kerry both came closer than Hillary - though neither had the media and party support she did. Both also had far stronger backgrounds.
One clue that this rumor might make no sense is that Biden has taken the lead on Iraq - not Hillary. On Afghanistan, though when Karzai was sworn in again, there were articles posted about how Clinton had a special relationship with him and she was leading on the corruption issue, you might have noticed that she was little involved when McChrystal (who she and Gates had backed) was fired and she was not sent to Afghanistan to try to get Karzai to stop fighting anti-corruption efforts. So, why put her in charge of Iraq and Afghanistan?

Her lies about Tuzia rendered her totally unable to deal with the military.
Even people who haven't been in combat respect those who have. And those who haven't are usually very careful to say that they served, but not in combat.
Clinton lied about landing under fire, and repeated the lie.
No way she could be CIC or Defense Secretary.
