just because the neo cons/repugs say we will lose seats in Nov. |
|
saying it over and over in as many ways as possible and as many times as possible
DOESN'T MAKE IT SO
when the media spouts polls showing this or that Dem will lose
DOESN'T MAKE IT SO
nobody wants the neo cons/repugs back in power. including many republican voters.
Rove and Koch brothers may manage to get a few seats but
sane people will see to the voting when the time comes.
(rigged voting may have the power in some of the seats, sorry to say)

1. The expectations set for Democrats is so very very low |
|
Obama has been written off as a failure by the media. We have a lot of work to do but at the moment I am fairly optimistic that there will be some pleasant surprises this fall but we all have to get off our collective asses, stop the bickering and get busy. It is imperative that we not let the crazies take over our government.

the polls are fixed, the media is against us, and if we lose we can always claim voter fraud..:eyes:
You know, sometimes things are just as they seem...and when someone like Nate Silver says we're in trouble, I sit up and take notice.

7. Rarely are things just as they seem in politics, when trillion dollar economies are at stake. |
|
And it's election fraud that is the problem, not voter fraud. :eyes:
You can catch up by reading DU's election forum.

9. my real-life contacts mirror the polls and media (or vice-versa) |
|
In face-to-face conversations I've heard almost no support for democrats over the last few months and lots of people determined to get repubs in power. I've seen political discussions pop up all over the place (2-3 a week) often in groups where it doesn't come up (our fairly non-political neighborhood pool). Some of the most significant
* The most hard-core progressive I know (has worked for liberal groups in DC for 20+ years) is very unhappy with the Democrats. The economy has really hurt donations to progressive groups she works with. She's very unhappy with health reform, stimulus, and most other things the Democrats have done. One of the orgs she works with is staying out of federal elections and focusing on state/local, prop 8, immigration, etc (which is a pretty significant change - usually during elections I hear about the most important federal seats they are putting money into)
* One group (small company my wife works for - 20 people) was very high on Obama and excited about what dems and Obama could do 2 years and most claimed to have voted for Obama and democrats. At a party 2 weeks ago they were all either staying away or voting republican across the board. The very liberal, pro-Obama, pro-environment, pro-Democrat owner who usually makes political comments when we get together hasn't mentioned politics for 6 months.
* One extremely conservative person who often has not voted republican over 10 years I've known him because they are too far left will now vote for ANY republican since they oppose Obama.
* At the neighborhood pool where I've almost never heard politics discussed, there is a lot of pro-republican and tea party talk. I would have said it is majority repub any how, but the fact they are now discussing politics seems significant.
My sample is small, and the polls may be way off. But it could be dangerous to consider them wrong just because you don't like what they say.

10. Have you tried talking to these people? |
|
Do you think you could change their minds if you dropped a little knowledge on them? Why are the people who liked Obama going back to the republicans? Are they really so unintelligent their memories cant stretch back over 2 years, or is it something else?

6. Everybody with decent representation needs to GOTV for them. |
|
We're never going to get more progressive if we have to constantly focus on retaking majorities all the time.
And that goes for state offices as well.

12. "sane people will see to the voting when the time comes" --- |
|
You just keep telling yourself that, dear.
But no, I'm not worried, you've set up your perfect out: if "sane people" don't take care of the voting, we can just blame Diebold.
Nice closed system you have there! Kudos! Must do wonders for your short-to-medium term mental equanimity!

17. All elections are LOCAL |

In this most recent election, 95% of ALL incumbents got re-elected. In elections it's always "Vote the Bums OUT...Just not MY Bum".

Why invite FAIL??
The Party of NO should be defeated in the best interest of the Nation
