WHY??? WHY Wasn't He Doing This ALL ALONG??? Why???? |
|
Edited on Tue Sep-07-10 12:07 PM by Beetwasher
Well, I'll tell you why. It would not have the same impact, that's why.
If Obama gave barn burner speeches like the one he gave yesterday once a week, it would be ignored and lose impact. The corporate media already takes any opportunity to ignore or downplay his actual accomplishments. If he was on the attack 24/7 then what he did yesterday would not be nearly as newsworthy.
In addition, NOW is the time to do this. NOW people start to pay attention. NOW is the time for the rollout.
You may say "Well, it's too late! The election is too close!". You may be right, you may be wrong. But you know what? I'll take Obama's sense of political timing and acumen over some anonymous poster on the internet any day. People forget what this guy has accomplished, politically speaking. If you think you've got better political chops than Obama, why aren't YOU the first African American President? Say what you want about Obama, but if you underestimate his political acumen and savvy, you will lose.

2. Yes, if we had a constantly fired-up, engaged, pissed-off president, that would just be Too Much for |
|
the nation to handle. How fortunate he dishes it out in bite-sized pieces that are appropriate for the population.

Comes with the job. Of course he gives a shit about his image. He should. He'd be an idiot not to. That's how he got elected in the first place.
If you think it's not important then I question your understanding of politics.

8. The media is going to do what it wants, no matter how he rations out his fired-up speeches. |
|
If he were using his fired-upedness to get shit done, that would give the people something to get excited about, instead of being excited that he parceled out some pre-election rhetoric.

36. No, Beetwasher is right, if he were always "fired up" then it would have |
|
no effect. And he's subject to the ABM crap. His personality is calm. Those are the people who get things done, not the dramatic all fired up all the time types.

16. So what? Bush did that for 8 years. |
|
And that kept his base engaged and proud of that bag of shit. All kinds of people stayed engaged inspired by him.
Obama could have done that and could have kept DU (and the rest of the liberal and progressive bases) worked up and on his side. Instead he did this Team of Rivals / Compromise (read Appease) with the Right bullshit.
I've been waiting for two years for Obama to take it to Repukes, now in the last hour he's gonna throw a Hail Mary?
Obama needs to give us a reason to believe in him, that's his job as a leader, to inspire the troops. He has been less than inspiring. Bush, though I loath him almost as much as Regan, inspired his people to fight for him and the GOP.

I'm reminded of how the networks would not cover the live TV coming from the moon during the post Apollo 11 missions. The viewers regarded it as same-old-thing.

11. I caught a lot of shit here during primary season because I |
|
openly supported and worked for Hillary Clinton for President. There were some little imps who did their level best to get me banned.
In real life, after Obama won the nomination, I worked hard for his election every day. My daughter was one of the lucky ones who got to go to Grant Park election night. I stayed home and manned the headquarters for the Democrats who wanted to come in and celebrate. Some of my fellow local Democrats were at the courthouse counting the votes. Some of the others put in a long day as election judges. Some called, and got last minute voters to the polls. Not all of them supported Obama originally either, even here in blue Illinois.
We've all been pulling together since, supporting our President, his programs, and the those who need to be elected and re-elected in November. Real Democrats know what to do and what is at stake. We don't nit-pick our President.
I don't think some of the people who come here to snipe and gripe have any real understanding of politics. If they did, they would not have time to be here complaining.
Democrats on the state and local levels need our help. Maybe it does not seem all that exciting to get someone elected as an alderman, or elected as a city councilman. Maybe you don't even know the name of your state senator. Well, find out. Go do something. Then you won't have time to buy into the republican talking points about how we are going to lose big in this election.

I was at Grant Park that night and it was electrifying. I cried and hugged strangers in line for the Port-a-Potty. Yeah, what timing. I started jumping up and down and quickly decided that was a bad idea. lol
Hillary is doing an awesome job and maybe she'll get her shot yet. My theory is that Obama picks her for VP in 2012 since Biden is getting up there. This will position her to step into the presidency in 2016.

jeeeeeeeeeze. I wish I would have kept count.

Maybe nobody was ever watching. But I tended to watch them all over the last 20 months. So really, he has rallied crowds like this on numerous occasions, in support of health care reform, financial reform, etc. Now it's the first election season, so people are perhaps watching.
