Congress Republicans wary of Obama economy plan

By Thomas Ferraro and Steve Holland

Reuters) - Republicans in Congress showed little willingness to help President Barack Obama approve $350 billion worth of measures to boost the economy with midterm elections less than two months away.

Obama's plans for billions of dollars in tax breaks for businesses are policies that Republicans typically embrace, but the party has little motivation to give the Democratic White House a win with polls showing them gaining seats in Congress -- possibly winning both houses.

Obama will announce his plans to stimulate the sagging economy -- including the tax breaks and new spending on transportation projects -- in a speech on Wednesday in Cleveland.

Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell said on Tuesday there was little appetite for new economic proposals from Obama, arguing that the $814 billion stimulus that the president already pushed through Congress in early 2009 has not had the desired effect.

3. Actually,
some Democrats are wary of it too. See, the logic is that nothing is better than some.

When one wants $1.2 billion, nothing is better than $800 billion. When more is needed, nothing is better than $350 billion.

4. I love it when they use terms like wary in the headline
it almost gives the impression that the pukes are looking at it with a critical eye but looking nonetheless. In reality the headline should read:

"Congressional Republicans condemn Obama plan before they see it".

Headlines like this are idiotic. Liberal media my ass.

There isn't a chance in hell that droopy dog McConnell is going to consider any Democratic proposal ever.

5. Well, lets not pretend to niceties.
They're against whatever Obama proposes.

He should put them in a bind: propose to eliminate all taxes on the rich cut off all help to the poor or unemployed and bring starvation to the land..

6. Of course they are..they're so fracking predictable..
they're wary of anything that helps our country and doesn't involve tax cuts for the uber wealthy..the ones who don't need it.
