Axelrod weasel word of the day: PERMANENTLY
Edited on Wed Sep-08-10 09:54 AM by Enrique
Axelrod has told us how it's going to be: the Bush tax cuts for the rich will be extended temporarily, just like Peter Orszag suggested.

Keep in mind that the tax cuts the rich are now enjoying were also supposed to be temporary.

If you can't watch, let me summarize: Axelrod comes out strong, saying all the right rich vs. poor stuff, very Democratic sounding. Then John King asks him directly, will the president veto? Axelrod dodges the question. King asks again. Axelrod says, if the bill has the tax cuts for the rich extended PERMANENTLY, then absolutely he would veto it! Axelrod's voice cracks on absolutely, but I believe him. I don't believe such a bill will reach Obama. The bill Obama will sign is written already, it's temporary extensions of all the Bush tax cuts.

Edit with rush transcript:

CNN: If Congress were to come forward with a plan, leaving the tax cuts in place for a period of time, would the president veto it?

Axelrod: Uh, look, the president has made his position absolutely clear, he believes that we should move forward, he is not gonna support, he is not gonna support, uh uh a plan..

CNN: But would he veto it?

Axelrod: Uh, if it includes, uh, a permanent extension of the, of the high income tax cuts, then absolutely* he will...

1. Extend them temporarily until a republican majority makes them permanent.

2. From DU homepage

"President Obama will rule out on Wednesday any compromise that would extend the Bush-era tax cuts for the wealthy beyond this year, officials said, adding a populist twist to an election-season economic package that is otherwise designed to entice support from big businesses and their Republican allies. "

That statement eliminates any extension, temporary or otherwise.

3. I doubt Obama is Crazy to extend them -- If he does he can kiss Progressives Goodbye PERMANENTLY
If this dumb tax cut gets extended it is just the groundwork to make them permanent.

So if obama does the unthinkable and once again appeases the right by giving them their tax cut then he will have completely sealed his fate as a 1-termer and lost all chances of progressive support permanently.

Seeing as how Democrats have buckled at whatever republicans have wanted for the most part on everything lets hope they stay strong on this.

Right now i give it a 50/50 chance of at least being temporarily extended.

5. The bill has been written already?

Really? Do you have inside information that others don't?

I see an awful lot of projection here. You have projected and assumed an awful lot of things based on a voice crack.

It must be a gift.

6. NYT: Obama will rule out any compromise that extends Bush tax cuts for wealthy BEYOND THIS YEAR
Edited on Wed Sep-08-10 10:02 AM by ClarkUSA
What does that mean to you? If you still have a hard time understanding what "beyond this year" means, check the DU homepage and read The New York Times article again: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x4531661

Any type of conspiracy theory/tea leaf word parsing is ridiculous.

Some people really find it impossible to give credit to President Obama. :eyes:

12. Why? We're not in the Clintonian doublespeak era anymore, thank goodness. The facts are clear here.
Edited on Wed Sep-08-10 11:07 AM by ClarkUSA
What also clear is your inability to credit this President with making the right decision even when it's front-page news on both the New York Times and DU.

Just curious: Before you eat an apple, do you always chop it up to check for worms first?

17. Salon.com: "On tax cuts, Obama picks a fight. The President makes a case for social justice."
Edited on Wed Sep-08-10 12:00 PM by ClarkUSA
"The President makes a case for social justice. It's time for the wealthy to pay their fair share."

President Obama plans to announce today that he will not seek an extension of the tax cuts for the wealthy, thus setting up a direct confrontation between the administration and Republicans and wavering Democrats.

http://www.salon.com/technology/how_the_world_works/2010/09/08/obama_picks_a_side/index.html

How about them facts: President Obama is a damned liberal who is looking to fight both Republicans and DLC Democrats! :applause:
