I need a hug...... (and some photos)
Edited on Tue Dec-08-09 12:23 AM by Clio the Leo
I need a hug .... one of my teabagger "friends" just un-friended me.

Because I made the BIZARRE claim that inner-city students have, historically, received poorer liberal arts educations than their suburban counterparts.

It's just as well I guess. If Palin ever becomes President, it would have been really awkward for us to continue to be friends during the period of ethnic cleansing while I was locked away in some kind of camp, labeled as a commie race-mixer. :)

Feel free to console me with an outpouring of sympathy (does Hallmark make a card?) ..... which may include, but is not limited to, photos of Joe Biden.

Oh and btw, "I AM SPARTACUS!!! ..... I AM MALCOLM X!!!!" (I'm watching Rachel)

*****************************
(and in an effort to keep this thread relevant to GDP, here are some photos of what the President did today lol)

WASHINGTON - DECEMBER 07: U.S. President Barack Obama (R) meets with Prime Minister of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan (L) in the Oval Office of the White House December 7, 2009 in Washington, DC. The two leaders were expected to discuss policy on the Middle East, the current situation in Iran, and the troop levels in the war in Afghanistan.

"I got no cellular because I'm a pothole.... sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo"

No really, we need instructions on the whole HUG protocol.

I would not want to be tomb-stoned because I issued an unauthorized hug.

12. I THINK what may have happened.....
.... another progressive friend hipped me to the fact that the teabagger friend (and for the record, I respectfully called her my "tea party" friend until about 10 mins ago) was writing a teabagger blog. I posted on that blog offering to help her with some technical issues she wrote she was needing help with. ..... and while *I* enjoy a friendly debate she does not. I think that may have set her off. lol

We NEVER talk politics because I know she doesn't like to, but the DOWN side of not talking about stuff is you let it fester and then ..... BLAM! Oozing boil right in your face.

And I also imagine I somehow represent all of the evils that the Democrats are doing to .... the homeland lol ....... I was just the closest lib she could react to.

I blame Obama. :)

16. Friendship is born from adversity.
I really believe that.

I have friends of varying ages, ethnicities, socio-economic backgrounds and religious beliefs (or lack there-of) and the ONE thing we have in common is that we respect the fact that our opinions are valid, even when we disagree. (Except when they say something negative about the President or about progressive legislation in which case *I* am right and they are wrong, heh.)

I'm sorry for your pain. I understand it all too well.

I feel as though I've gone asleep and awakened in a topsy-turvy world.

But, rest assured, some of us from the "old" world are still here.

26. Yes. And the weird -- depressing -- thing is that they may actually mean well
They make a number of fatal mistakes, the main one is that they take corporate-created news as the truth.

Oh sure, there are the Randians and the Machiavellians out there. But ultimately, most of us want the best for the people we care for.

Where liberals and deluded "conservatives" diverge is on the definition of "people we care for." I want everyone to have a wonderful life and refuse to sacrifice the lives of others to make the lives of people I am close to even better. I continue to believe that I can actually have my cake and eat it too.

28. Yep.
It's the notion that "anyone can be successful if they just try hard enough and are free to explore the full extent of their potential" vs. the notion that there will always be people who CANNOT take care of themselves that we must watch out for and the reason why SOME Of those folks are in the state they're in is our fault. As long as the government is imposing a tax upon its citizen (which I'm not opposed to) then it owes an obligation to take care of them.

There-in lies the difference. ..... Their notion is a lovely idea .... but that's all it will ever be.

(hiding my eyes from the image of Dear Leader partaking!!!)

NEED I REMIND you that not only am I SOUTHERN but I'm a preacher's kid too!!!! Egads!! (Oh, I think that's a by-word) .... I mean .... well, I'm gonna pray away that image from my mind!!! eeeek!!!

(I'm going to have to stare at this photo of the President touching the Bible for quite a while to off set that one!)

Now, on a serious note, I'm reading my friend's blog and she talks about the "damage" done to this country by the current administration, to our liberties.

WHERE do they get that notion from? I mean, they think he's destroying the economy, obviously I dont agree but one could make a case for that .... but WHERE do they get the notion that he's destroying "our liberties."

And this is what bothers me so much.... she's a very intelligent woman. a GOOD person. But then there's these tangents.

I dont get it.

31. Well, there's the gun thing....
Edited on Tue Dec-08-09 12:56 AM by Clio the Leo
.... which has about as much merit as the claim he wasn't born here. Seriously, is that based in ANY fact at all? (I'm asking.) ..... I've followed the guy on a daily basis for going on two years now and the only guns I'm aware he's trying to take away are those belonging to the Taliban ..... and Iran.

And I would REALLY like to be able to discuss it with her .... to find out why she thinks that way .... but NOOOO if i ask then I'm "being argumentative." Sometimes people want to believe what they want to believe and dont want anyone to point out that their belief might be in error.

What Obama has done to take away 'their' liberties is that he has taken away the right wings power to take away our liberties. At least that is the way I see it, and I always see things the right way. (wink, wink)

I have a good friend who I couldn't talk out of voting for Bush in '04. Had we talked about politics at any time in the last 4 years, we wouldn't be friends any more. Fortunately, she regained her sense and voted for Obama, as did her conservative hubby and daughter. Maybe someday you can be friends again, if you want to be.
