GEORGE BUSH made my drinking water dirty |
|
Edited on Tue Dec-08-09 08:46 AM by Rosa Luxemburg
Thank goodness the Obama administration is doing something about our drinking water. Since 2004 water has been allowed to reach our homes with bacteria, radioactivity, toxins in it. The companies were not fined! http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/34323634/ns/us_news-the_new_york_times//

2. Sorry, but that's bullshit |

If you're drinking water is/was contaminated, your local water company or the municipality is to blame. The EPA is absolutely responsible for enforcement, but the fact that they did a crappy job doesn't give doesn't let the water supplier off the hook, at least not in my book. The article said that EPA officials were skeptical that things will change even now, so I wouldn't start celebrating just yet. It's a difficult problem - the fixes are often very expensive and the towns don't have the money.
You can get data on your local water quality from your town by asking for it. (My town sends it to all resident once a year) If they're not in compliance, you should be screaming at your local officials AND complaining to the EPA.

3. It's nice to know that the government are now 'aware' of it |

although the EPA are skeptical that doesn't mean that they will not do anything. Fixes should be high priority. Bush's administration turned a blind eye to this and to general pollution.

FEMA is a prime example of Bush's "handle" on agencies.

8. Bush didn't really want a "handle" on most agencies. |

He installed do-nothings specifically to do nothing.

Bush is stupid in some ways but making government look useless was NOT an accident of stupidity.

Context is good.
Were things better from 2004 to 2009 than they were in the five preceding years or worse? If worse, by how much, in what ways, and why?
Ah. The article doesn't let us know. Like many others, it's a context free "* bad, Obama good" article. At least it contained some facts; that gets it out of the lowest two deciles. It would have been nice had it pointed out all the prosecutions in the last 10 months, but I guess those aren't important; they'd count as good news. Or maybe there aren't so many.
Priceless was the anonymous source, still fearing retribution lest he say something amiss.
