Obama should've made the case for effective big government action going in.
Maybe if he'd made that a central issue in the campaign and in his inaugeration speech the narriative would've been set. As it stands all the speeches he's made lately are an attempt to play catch up. It's not good enough to get all these big things passed. He's also got to tie them into something larger. I mean FDR didn't just pass social security, the CCC, or the WPA he called for a New Deal and all these programs were parts of it. The way Obama has done it makes his achievements seem like one big faceless mass lacking shape or purpose. How did they fail to go for the big narrative? I bet if they had the repubs wouldn't be as cocky as they are now.
