GOP Poll: Dems lead in three competitive Iowa congressional races
IA-01/IA-02/IA-03: GOP poll puts Dems ahead in three key races
Call this one the "holy shit" surprise poll of the day, especially when you consider the source. GOP pollsters Voter/Consumer Research headed into the field in Iowa, and found that all three Democratic incumbents polled hold respectable leads over their Republican challengers. The big surprise among the three is veteran Rep. Leonard Boswell, who most folks conceded was trailing Republican challenger Brad Zaun. The GOP pollster begs to differ, however, putting Boswell up by nine points (48-39) over Zaun. In Iowa's 2nd district, second-term incumbent David Loebsack holds a similar edge over Mariannette Miller-Meeks (47-39), while over in the 1st district, second term Democrat Bruce Braley holds a slightly larger edge over Republican Ben Lange (50-39). The pollster found slightly closer races when they confined their sample to so-called "certain to vote" participants.

3. Listening to these analysts on the financial networks they have already written of the Democrats
saying the market will go up when the Democrats win the house and the senate

That wall street wants the repukes should make the independents very wary of them

2. Good news.
Though there were never three competitive IA seats... it's still good news. I think one of those was a tossup at one point.

4. Just looking from the sidelines, so to speak, I think a Repub "juggernaut" is being over rated,
By much of the press.

5. Since we're talking IA, any change the POS Steve King will go away?
He is probably the most disgusting Congress ever.

8. This is the voter break-down for the 5th district.. and you see why King is elected
Iowa’s 5th Congressional District overwhelmingly favors a Republican. As of Aug. 1, voter registration stood as follows: 149,000 Republicans, 95,000 Democrats and 123,000 independents. In some sections of the district, the GOP margin is crushing, such as in Sioux County where there are 14,300 registered active Republicans compared to 1,700 Democrats.

10. And isn't it amusing that King's district sucks more cash
Edited on Fri Sep-10-10 10:11 AM by Sal Minella
from the great teat of federal agricultural subsidies than any of Iowa's other four districts.

"Get the gubmint out of our lives" does not apply to Western Iowa Republicans when it comes to standing in line for agricultural subsidy handouts of gubmint tax monies.

Amazing, no? No. (will see if I can find the appropriate website and add it).

Edit: I am in error. King's district is a few hundred thou short of Latham's -- but both totals are five billion. Dollars. Taxpayer monies.

7. I Heard It Said
In 1994, which many are comparing this election to, supposedly democrats were surprised by the huge republican gains and the take over of both houses. Polls showed Democrats safely maintaining both houses of Congress and it wasn't until the exit polls that pundits realized the breath of the Republican win.

Many on the left feel this year may be the reverse. Republicans are so sure of their victories that they are already taking their victory laps. It may not be until the exit polls from the November elections that they realize their gains may not be as sweeping as current polling appears to indicate.

Its my hope. While I might be easily lumped into the unexcited liberal democrat category. I AM voting. While I am not raving about the current administration, they are HANDS DOWN better then the Republican alternative.

My protest vote is in my volunteer time, and money donated. I am keeping my money and time local and working there. I have skipped my normal donations to the DCC and national campaigns and given it instead to the local house candidates directly and the gubernatorial campaigns.

It makes ME feel better, altho I will say it has doubled the number of calls and mailings for solicitations. :-)

12. Senate and Governor races
Now if only Roxanne Conlin could "pull the Plyg" on Grassley's Senate career and Culver could prevent a return to the years of Terry Braindead (Brandstad), our former Republican governor!

13. The fact that Braley leads big shouldn't surprise anyone
Unless you don't live here. He has done a good job and people in this district like him.

14. Iowa Public Radio has him on fairly frequently as a guest and
I always enjoy listening to him. Well-informed, articulate, practical.

I expect great things from Bruce Braley.

16. link please
plus voting NO on one bill is hardly a body of work.
Sitting back to let the likes of Miller-Meeks (ugh!) etc into congress is well not very smart.
This seems like a troll post to me.
