Gingrich: Obama has a “Kenyan, Anti-Colonial” Worldview
More sleazy, base-level spew from the gop's "big thinker."

Citing a recent Forbes article by Dinesh D’Souza, former House speaker Newt Gingrich tells National Review Online that President Obama may follow a “Kenyan, anti-colonial” worldview.

Gingrich says that D’Souza has made a “stunning insight” into Obama’s behavior — the “most profound insight I have read in the last six years about Barack Obama.”

“What if is so outside our comprehension, that only if you understand Kenyan, anti-colonial behavior, can you begin to piece together ?” Gingrich asks. “That is the most accurate, predictive model for his behavior.”

“This is a person who is fundamentally out of touch with how the world works, who happened to have played a wonderful con, as a result of which he is now president,” Gingrich tells us.

“I think he worked very hard at being a person who is normal, reasonable, moderate, bipartisan, transparent, accommodating — none of which was true,” Gingrich continues. “In the Alinksy tradition, he was being the person he needed to be in order to achieve the position he needed to achieve . . . He was authentically dishonest.”

And "anti-colonial", what does that even mean in today's world? Maybe Eye of Newt is trying to appeal to the people who think that white people had to "culturally uplift" other people by taking their resources.

6. Note to Newt and Dinesh - Obama is more Harold MacMillan than Jomo Kenyatta. He's no Mau Mau.
And, the U.S. is where the U.K. was in MacMillan's time, facing the problems of a disintegrating global empire -- but, without the Americans to take up the slack and cushion the blow -- a fact the GOP Right-wing finds it impossibly to grasp.

Gingrich and D'Souza really embody the old phrase that a little knowledge, but no understanding, is a truly dangerous thing.

Gingrich disgusts me. But then so do the rest of the closet racists who call themselves republicans.

25. Gingrich should be happy with Obama's "anti-colonial worldview"
Because it means freedom and liberty for all peoples from colonialism. The GOP always says the they are the party of liberty. Does that mean the GOP supports former colonial powers such as Britain, France and Spain getting their colonies back? If so, Gingrich must support the USA handing back the Southwest and Florida to Spain, the Louisiana Purchase back to France! Hey, lets give ourselves back to England while we're at it!

GINGRICH YOU MORON!

49. Not really.
There's a specific context for what he said. The post referred to it explicitly so there's no reason to not know this.

Ignore the context and you can interpret it however you want. If you do that, though, the interpretation isn't what Gingrich meant, but your interpretation. Then it says something about you but not him. That's an old problem, though, with extreme de- and re-contextualization of others' words. (It's touted as being superior scholarship, but oddly it requires less research, less effort towards understanding, and less of a chance of being contradicted.)

28. Gingrich longs for the Old Colonial Days...
..when rich white landlords could own slaves,

when it was a government approved activity to kill indigenous people and steal their lands,

where the natural resources of foreign lands belonged to rich, white Europeans/Americans,
who could use Public Money and The Blood of poor Americans to go steal them.

where the Landed Gentry (top 1%) owned everything,

where the poor, the old, and the sick knew their place (dying in the gutter).

Yep. Times were good in the Old Colonial Days...for the Top 1%.

29. What IS a "Kenyan, anti-colonial" world view?
Edited on Sun Sep-12-10 10:23 AM by LWolf
I don't see a good explanation in the article. It's kind of hard to refute when I've never even heard of it. I guess I could go looking for myself, but what Gingrich says simply isn't important enough for me to spend a morning off on.

Gingrich says he "played a wonderful con" to get elected.

“I think he worked very hard at being a person who is normal, reasonable, moderate, bipartisan, transparent, accommodating — none of which was true,” Gingrich continues. “In the Alinksy tradition, he was being the person he needed to be in order to achieve the position he needed to achieve . . . He was authentically dishonest.”

is in the great tradition of Edison, Ford, the Wright Brothers, Bill Gates — he saw his opportunity and he took it,”

In this, Gingrich is essentially correct. Singling out Obama, though, is disingenuous, to say the least.

What politicians DOESN'T craft a public persona designed to appeal to voters? It's true of just about every politician I've ever been aware of. It's certainly true of every successful politician, anyway.

Including Gingrich.

Edited to add: I lied. The little blue link to the Forbes article was easy, and I got to read what D'Souza says about anti-colonialism in a few minutes. While his perspective is twisted by his conservatism, anti-colonialism is what we would expect: Resistance to and overthrowing western powers that have enriched themselves by keeping natives down. He talks quite a bit about Obama's father and his ideas about socialism, and his anti-colonial world views, which, he says, President Obama has grown up with and allows to shape his own world view.

That's where it all unravels. I WISH Obama wanted to end American imperialism, to "wring the neocolonialism out of America and the West." If he did, I'd be right there helping him. Instead, his neoliberalism will do just the opposite.

How do all of those who are economic neoliberals at heart allow themselves to be convinced by ludicrous propaganda that the president, a neoliberal himself, is somehow a socialist? Why do Americans allow themselves to be led obediently by mass media and propaganda?
