Senate Republicans say they'll block tax increase
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_tax_cuts

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama's plan to raise taxes on wealthier people while preserving cuts for everyone else appears increasingly likely to founder before Election Day.

Senate Republicans declared on Monday they have the votes to block legislation that would extend only middle-class tax relief — which Obama has repeatedly promised to deliver — if Democrats follow through on plans to let tax rates rise for the wealthiest Americans. The GOP senators forcefully made their case one day after House Republican leader John Boehner suggested he might vote for Obama's plan if that ends up the only option.

Both Republicans and Democrats are using the looming expiration of Bush-era tax cuts as a defining battle in elections to determine control of Congress.

1. Great! Most people support letting the cut for the rich expire. This should
Hurt them. Sounds good to me.

4. Let them. Hopefully Dems will ride this issue to having a filibuster
proof majority.

5. false headline by yahoo...it isn't a tax increase, it's an expiration of temporary tax cuts.
yahoo always seems to be very subtle in their leaning right.

Thanks for posting Peacetrain!

6. actually it is worse than that
since what would really be filibustered is a tax cut for the middle class. Doing nothing means all taxes go back to Clinton levels which is what a filibuster would cause, doing nothing. The Dem bill would keep middle class taxes at current rates but let the ones on the rich revert back to Clinton levels. That is what not filibustering would cause, a tax cut for the middle class.

7. Now if only we had some Dems in DC willing to call out the Rs on their anti-middle class positions
Then of course there is the next challenge of the M$M covering any Dems who speak out agains the Repubs' war on the middle class.

9. Misleading title
They will REFUSE to extend MIDDLE-CLASS TAX CUTS. Unless the House and Senate pass and President Obama signs an extension of the upper-class tax cuts, the Bush tax cuts-all of them (most of which are geared towards the upper-class with a few crumbs being thrown at the middle class) will simply die a quiet death at the end of the year.
