Seniors will turn out in this election... something to talk to them about

For those of us on a local level manning the phones in the next couple of months.

Mid - term elections bring out the dedicated.. and that is Seniors. One thing to get them moving and juiced is just to remind them that republicans are against Social Security and they want to put it into the market.


AP-CNBC Poll: Investors wary of stock trading

WASHINGTON – Wild gyrations on Wall Street have made U.S investors leery of buying individual stocks and skeptical that the market is a fair place to park their money.

In an Associated Press-CNBC poll of investors, 61 percent said the market's recent volatility has made them less confident about buying and selling individual stocks. And the majority of those surveyed — 55 percent — said the market is fair only to some investors.

The survey confirms that average investors have been growing more concerned about the stock market as a safe place to invest for retirement. And news about the market has been unsettling for ordinary investors of late: More than 60 percent of those surveyed said they had paid attention to news reports about swings in the stock market.

It might also be good to bring up that the HCR plan actually helped them as well by partly closing the donut hole. The Republicans used scare tactics with them to make them think that Democrats were weakening Medicare. I am not sure where seniors are on this now - but not raising it might leave the republican lies unchallenged.

Too large a percentage of them are rabid Republicans.

4. I'm a "senior", I guess, at least a younger one - I won't ever vote for

a republican, and never have. Please don't generalize about all of us.
We are older, but we are still individuals and some of us still manage to think on occasion.

The other 70% are rabid Republican Fox News junkies.


Not generalizing at all. It's just a fact that the majority of seniors are conservative.

8. I understand what you are saying.. and that is why getting the truth

out to them is so important. There are ranges of Seniors.. I am 61 but have a 23 year old son. Keeps me young.. And my friends are much more liberal than say my Mothers group who are in their 80's... But my Mom is a huge Obama supporter and Democrat to the bone.

Fox news also reports its polls with a hue that looks good to them

Remember is was OLD, WHITE, Iowa that got our President on his way.

9. Boomer seniors and McCain cohorts

I think you will find that the baby boom seniors (if that's not an oxymoron, I don't know what is) are more liberal than those who were already out of college during the Vietnam war. But there doesn't seem to be any age breakdown, they just fall into the "they're too old, who cares what they do since they aren't a hot marketing demographic" category.
