Fox relents: Will run ad tonight about News Corp $1 million donation against Dems

It took a few weeks, but Media Matters has finally succeeded in getting Fox News to run its ad about the $1 million donation its parent company News Corporation gave to the Republican Governors Association.

Fox has informed Media Matters the spot will run tonight during Bill O'Reilly's show, a Media Matters spokesperson tells me. In order to get Fox to agree to run the spot, the ad had to be tweaked several times, and here's the final version

Fox News finally relented and told Politico recently that it would run the ad, but Fox execs suggested to Politico that they were skeptical it would ever run. Now, however, it will indeed grace Fox's airwaves.

The kicker: Media Matters confirms to me that the ad will run only once. The spot, of course, has now gotten plenty of free airtime from news outlets covering the dustup. Which means this gambit worked: Fox's initial refusal to air the spot earned it far more exposure than it otherwise would have received.

Either way, Fox primetime viewers will finally learn that fair and balanced Fox News's parent company gave $1 million "to oppose Democratic candidates for office this November."

2. WOW!
That's weird..aren't they always turning down Dem ads? And, to show one that exposes them so..just seems odd.

3. Doesn't really matter
Those who will be watching could care less if they donate a million to the republicans, they will still say they are the only "fair and balanced" news cast on TV! We have to fact the facts, the die hards that watch their BS are just plain gullible and Fox knows that, so why not take the money for the ad, it won't bother their watchers one bit!

4. I'd go so far as to say Fox determined
there was no downside. They know who their core audience is and those people who see the ad will be positively reinforced that the network is on their side.

You see, we in the rational world give a shit about fair and balanced... they are just hyper partisan and don't care, because their ratings say they have enough hyper partisan viewers to make more money than their rival networks that do try and be more rational.

5. Fox News viewers will see that as CONFIRMATION that they are right.
Weak, weak, weak.

6. Sounds like a waste of Media Matters money
Viewers of Fox News would be happy to hear of them supporting the Republican party.

7. To outright change the news by spending money to oppose?
"gave $1 million "to oppose Democratic candidates for office this November.""

I don't know; that would annoy me.
