Just got a text from my RNC pal that they are going to take Palin down hard this fall
Edited on Tue Sep-14-10 11:07 PM by zulchzulu
Needless to say, the RNC is pissed that mainstream Republicans that were viable in fall elections got taken out when Tea Party nominees won in primary races and now face certain defeat. Up to nine "establishment Republicans" (otherwise known as electable) lost to Teaparty Far White Wing extremists. You can bet that those Republicans who voted against the Tea Party will sit out the fall election in disgust.

So I just got this text from a guy I know who is part of the RNC and attends "bat-cave" meetings to strategize political moves and he (and the RNC) are pissed about Steele being a classic FAIL and Sarah Palin being a "careless, classless turncoat" (his words) who needs to finally be stomped on before she can do any more damage to their fall election hopes.

He sent this:

SP is going to be the next BP. She is toast. Time to pull the trigger. She has been a careless, classless turncoat.

Knowing my friend, to "pull the trigger" means to do the deed, drop the bomb, attack from all sides...politically. Er...um... maybe...

According to someone else I know who lives in Delaware, he saw Karl Rove hanging out in Rehobeth Beach and rumor had it that he was there to tell the O'Donnell campaign that they will not get any backing from the RNC in the fall if she wins. It was made official by the RNC that they are ceding the Senate seat to the Democrats.

This is going to be fun!

13. Exactly. They have what they wanted
This is a high risk, high reward strategy. If it works, this will be as successful as '94 if not more so. They will have both houses of congress, and the prospect of President Palin and her puppet master, Vice President Gingrich. They will keep the SCOTUS conservative leaning, and undo HCR. UT...if they fail to regain both houses of congress, the media will have a field day asking what happened? and paint the GOP as divided and dysfunctional.

144. Any government involvement in health care represents an unacceptable "Nanny State" approach
Health care should only be available to those who have truly earned it...the poor should just die and decrease the surplus population.

159. This Government involvement is just fine for them though.
Minimal effect for the people with a guaranteed perpetual profit for their friends in the insurance and drug industry.

They may have voted against it, rail on about it today, and cry about it on the TV, but in private they are smoking cigars and patting each other on their backs for what they have done for their friends in high places.

160. I'm not so sure... I think that will wait until they've destroyed employer sponsored care
I get what you're saying -- what we ended up with is Romneycare on steroids. But there are two other recurring conservative memes I keep seeing.

One is get rid of health insurance entirely. This won't happen, but proponents argue that insurance is what is really driving up costs. The backers here are doctors who don't like the costs and waiting period to get paid by insurers.

There are a lot of small business owners who deeply resent employer backed health care because they can't compete with bigger companies for hiring. They reason that if everyone had to insure themselves or go bare, the playing field would be level. I think that's where McSame got that popular notion to do away with the employer tax breaksfor providing coverage and give everyone a health care tax credit.

However, even while running against HRC, they have to know undoing it would be a bear. They'd need both houses of Congress, and the WH, and I'm not sure they could undo it through reconcilliation, so they'd likely need 60 Senate votes.

There are those who prefer "big pharma", or "big medicine" to "big government". They are the ones wanting to undo HCR, because they say that didn't get anything they wanted either.

70. They tried to whip up their "base"...
...to get them good and angry for election time.

Problem is--I don't think the corrupt, political apparatus expected them to
start a movement with their own candidates who aren't in on the fix.

They've created FrankenTeaStein.

I have mixed feelings about this. No way in hell would I vote for a tea partier.
However, look at what the "establishment" does to an outsider or a movement that will most likely
try to buck the corruption and the Tony Sopranoish game they're playing with our democracy.

Establishment Dems would do the same thing to the Progressive Wing of our party, if we established
a movement and our candidates were winning.

...Something to think about.

It looks like the conservatives may not have been getting candidates that they want so now they have formed the Tea Party and are taking the GOP to the woodshed for a good spankin'. So far it looks like it may be working. It's going to be interesting to watch! If they pull this off there may even be some lessons in there for everyone...

She'll be gone soon enough.

As divided and apathetic as the Democrats look this cycle, the Repugs are in much worse shape. Their divisions are much deeper and are IMO terminal. They will prove to be fatal to the GOP in the long run. I'm more curious as to what will replace the Repug party after it implodes in 2-4 years.

Romney? Maybe, but the fundies don't seem inclined to support him
Gingrich? His baggage hasn't gone anywhere, and he lacks the "warmth" factor to become POTUS
Maybe they start from scratch with a Pataki or a Christie...
Rick Perry? Could be, but the secession comments will probably bite him in the ass.

One way you can get rid of him, is when he "blows" this election. If they don't take over one of the houses of congress, he's gone.

She's gone/done when basically none of her candidates win.

In the end it's all about money and there's money behind this that isn't coming from her. Those controlling that cash will dump her.

53. KKKarl: There Are 'A Lot Of Nutty Things' O'Donnell's Been Saying (VIDEO)
Karl Rove and Sean Hannity duked it out tonight over Christine O'Donnell's win in the Republican Senate primary in Delaware, with Rove, surprisingly, calling some of O'Donnell's remarks "nutty" and conceding that "this is not a race we're going to be able to win."

"This was about Mike Castle's bad votes," Rove said tonight on Fox News. "It does conservatives little good to support candidates who, at the end of the day, while they may be conservative in their public statements, do not evince the characteristics of rectitude and truthfulness and sincerity and character that the voters are looking for."

Rove pointed out that there have been a lot of questions about O'Donnell's finances, and some of her allegations against Castle. Hannity fired back that he interviewed her about all of those things.

"Did you ask her about the people who were following her home to her headquarters?" Rove asked, adding: "There are just a lot of nutty things she's been saying."

"We were looking at eight to nine seats in the Senate," he continued. "Now we're looking at seven to eight, in my opinion. This is not a race we're going to be able to win."

A LOT of teabaggers are campaigning on the need to shut down Social Security, which is the worst mistake you can make: old people VOTE in significant numbers, and they're not going to vote for anyone who's openly advocating getting rid of Social Security.

58.  Good news and not surprising. The GOP will never allow
Palin to be their nominee for several reasons, and I think they'll trash her even if she decides not to run just so they can make her irrelevant.

1. She hasn't earned her dues (which is essential in GOP politics)
2. She's nuts, and so utterly clueless about policy she can't win and, even they, admit it
3. They didn't like her when McCain nominated her and they hate her now that she's screwing up their strategy, trashing their candiates and hurting their chances of getting a majority.

The wingnuts are not a forviging bunch and she has completely alienated them.

What fun!

Edited on Wed Sep-15-10 05:25 PM by Fla Dem
NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE will stand up to this defacto Central Committee. Both Hannity and Limbaugh did not have good things to say about Rove today. Hannity took John Cornyn (R-Tex) head of the Senate Election Committee to the woodshed today for not endorsing O'Donnell and for not giving Marco Rubio more support. Cornyn got down on his kness and begged forgivness. Said they already sent $42,000 to O'Donnell and $1 Million to Rubio. Cornyn promised Hannity, O'Donnell would have the full support of his Committee. The people named in my header are running the Republican Party. Unless these people are shut down the crazies are here to stay.

116. Not really. Sure, they have a ton of influence over the
wacko wing of the party, which doesn't include whatever moderates may be left and the conservatives establishment candidates who don't want their party taken over by these crazies that will throw them out at first opportunity, like McConnell, Boehner and the rest. They know their days are numbered if the lunatics take complete control, and they haven't yet because none of them have been elected.

There are plenty of big groups, at least one led by Rove, that have a shitload of money and can do alot of damage to anyone they don't like. No one can sling shit like Karl Rove and most of the teabag candidates have lots of shit in their metephorical closets. Rove has the ability and the money to destroy them.

64. Tell your pal they already allowed themselves to be defined
by the Crazies, and that any person who could nominate and vote for Palin less than two years ago, to sit in the VP's office, and is now castigating her should be castigating themselves at the same time for doing this to America. The Republican Party is wholly responsible for Palin's presence on the national stage. All last summer the Tea Baggers raved and raged against health care reform, and the Republican Party 'moderates' were no where to be seen. They did not stand up then, and now that they have lost, they whine about it. Typical Republicans.

65. That would be great...but I doubt they have the firepower to do it
Ok, I'd love to see the political marginalization of Sarah Palin. She's done enormous damage to the body politic and warped the political sensibilities of a large slice of the electorate.

Now she's helped bring down some mainstream Republicans, and we're told the "normal" GOP wants to take her down.

That's great, but I'm not sure they have the ability to do it.

I say this because I see the response she gets from so many people. To her "base", which is quite large, she is highly charismatic. They revere her and they have the ability to discount any negative things said about her. They see these as merely 'the media being unkind to her because she's not one of the elite'.

So the GOP can fire everything they've got in their 'politics of personal destruction' arsenal at her...but I suspect Palin has adequate armor to take a massive number of direct hits without sustaining any significant damage.

I hope I'm wrong, but I think Palin may take down the GOP. If that happens, I HOPE that means the Democratic Party will take down the Tea Party, but I'm not sure how that's going to work out either.

Palin and the tea party are being propped up by money. If it comes to a knock down, where will the money side? Once the gloves are taken off and the protection is taken away, the truth will come out. Americans can be very cruel, they will take someone from the greatest heights and slam them down to the ground.

She won't stand a chance if the GOP turns on her, and I just wonder what the National Enquirer might be sitting on, just waiting for the right moment.

I want to feel sorry for her for what may be coming, but she has been such an evil wench that I just can't. When you say you stand for ethics and judge others, you better be clean yourself.

The time to stop Palin if they wanted to was BEFORE she got all these tea partiers nominated. Now they have to bite the bullet and support them all. 101. Two points:
Edited on Wed Sep-15-10 06:03 PM by MilesColtrane
The chairman of the Republican National Senatorial Committee, John Cornyn, has already voiced his support of Teabagger O'Donnell (and sent her a hefty check). So has Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell.

This doesn't jibe with your friend's tale of an all out assault on winning baggers.

And, secondly your assertion that Republican voters would rather sit at home than pull the lever for a Teabagger, is based on what?

Republicans will hold their noses and vote for the extremists just to block the Democrats, just as most mainstream Democrats would vote for a Green or a far left candidate over a Republican.

105. People didn't take notice when I said the GOP was in freefall meltdown...
Not many paid attention when I said we'd most likely pic up seats in both House; I was called an optimist, a dreamer and a fool. But if the Crazy Side of the R's keeps this up, it will be a landslide.

Exceptionally few zanies from either side get elected, and when moderates take them on, whether they lean a little left or right is actually a plus in some elections...but to topple over on either side is a losing proposition.

Again, it all depends on how many D's come out to vote, and I urge everyone to do so; the sensible R's will sit this one out, and if we bring out D's to the polls...the GOP, (at least what it is now), will be crushed into powder.

Bring on the teabaggers!!! They are a tiny minority, but they can do a lot of damage to the GOP...:D

117. Beware wishful thinking, fellow Dems
We all would like to hope that the rethugs are going to go quietly. That won't happen.

We need to get energized and help our fellow Dems get to the polls in November or we will see nothing but gridlock and another round of BS witch hunts a la Ken Starr.

He'll find a way to take her down and make it look like the Democrats' fault.

123. The tea party will declare open season on the GOP
...if that happens.

The Tea party IS the republican party, that is the bed they have made, they now have to sleep in it.

126. May the implosion continue. Newt Gingrich has been lending a hand too, when he talks
about Obama's Kenyan anti- colonialism crap. I don't see many Independents and moderate Republicans embracing this shit.

Newt Is Nuts!
Why is Gingrich pushing Dinesh D'Souza's crazy theory about Obama's "Kenyan anti-colonialism"?

Why is anti-colonialism a bad thing? When did colonialism become fashionable again?

134. All this discord and unease among the Republican
Party operatives as they survey the wreckage of their own express decision to let the far Right into the castle walls.

Why, it's a dirty shame.

2012 would clear the way for all the other tremendous GOP candidates -- like Rick Santorum and Mike Pence.

And Lou Dobbs.

While the Democrats concentrate on smacking the Palin and Newt dummies, bingo they wont have much time to attack the real candidate.

162. What makes you think that "Tea Party nominees who won in primary races now face certain defeat?"
Ar least one, Lee in Utah, is heavily favored to win. At least two others, Angle and Paul, are in dead heats and might win. And even if Murkowski runs as a write in candidate in Alaska which now seems likely, polls show Miller narrowly leading a three way race there. I agree that O'Donnell is a long shot, but that's just one candidate.
