Obama nominates Senator Roger Wicker R-MS to monitor U.N.

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) Republican U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker of Mississippi is picking up some additional duties for the next few months.

President Barack Obama announced Wednesday that he has appointed Wicker as one of three people to represent the United States at the 65th session of the United Nations General Assembly. Obama also appointed an alternate.

Wicker's staff says he will keep his job as senator and will have largely ceremonial duties to monitor activities of the U.N.

1. I don't think "ceremonial duties" warrants anybody getting their knickers in a twist. nt

6. Here you go
Carol Fulp, Representative of the United States of America to the Sixty-fifth Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations
Greg Nickels, Alternate Representative of the United States of America to the Sixty-fifth Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations
Senator Jeanne Shaheen, Representative of the United States of America to the Sixty-fifth Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (U.S. Senator from the State of New Hampshire)
Senator Roger Wicker, Representative of the United States of America to the Sixty-fifth Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (U.S. Senator from the State of Mississippi)

10. Both Wicker and Shaheen are on the SFRC
I think both are also pretty junior, which makes sense as Senators - in either party, but especially the Democrats, would likely be too busy to have this responsibility. I wonder if it is to be the eyes of the committee - which has oversight - on what is happening there.
