Do you really think the rich will stop spending if the marginal rate reverts to Clinton's era rates
Edited on Thu Sep-16-10 08:55 AM by flpoljunkie
CNBC's Trish Regan on The Daily Rundown spinning as hard as she can to renew the Bush tax cuts for the rich because the top 5% are responsible for 40% of consumer spending! Everyone she speaks to on Wall Street says we cannot let the Bush tax cuts expire for the top 2%! Does she really think these people would cease to consume because the marginal tax rate on income over $250,000 would go up from the current 33% and 35% to 36% and 39.6%?

Too bad neither Chuck Todd or Savannah Guthrie thought to ask her this obvious question--altho they did point out that tax cuts for those at the very top does not stimulate the economy--according to numerous economists.

Nice try, Trish! But we ain't buying!

1. That's the thing. This extra money won't lead to additional spending for them.
They already have the money to buy what they want. However, if you gave me a tax cut, I'm going right out and putting it right back into the economy.

If part of public policy and economics must predict what human behavior will be, then this certainly fails that test.

2. They aren't spending now
And they sure as hell aren't investing the tax cuts they got 10 years ago in anything that will create jobs. Jobs in America anyway.

5. Why? Because the media wants those tax cuts for the top 2%. That's why.

6. Everyone in the media should be forced to disclose if they make over $250,000
They are so proud of keeping them honest. How about them exposing the fact that they tell half truths and promote lies about about ending the tax cuts on all income above $250,000 because it will mean that they will have to pay more taxes and that's what has their panties in a wad.

They keep framing it as though people making over $250,000 won't get a tax cut. That is a lie that the WH and sane Democrats need to call them on. Everyone is going to get a tax cut under Obama's plan. They just aren't going to get it on income over $250,000.

Another thing that needs to be clear is that the increase is only 3.6 cents on the dollar. The vast majority of Americans pay 7.65 cents on the dollar extra for FICA taxes that these folks don't be pay on their income over $250,000. They need to stop whining and grow up.
