(R)asmussen Reports: WI Senate--Johnson 51% Feingold 44% |
|
Edited on Fri Sep-17-10 08:32 AM by WI_DEM
(Now I live in WI and am doing my bit for Russ, but I don't discount that Russ is behind. Maybe not by 7-points, but Johnson is on TV all the time with a mix of positive and attack ads. Russ's ads are not nearly as frequent and when they are on they are lackluster/boring for the most part. Furthermore, Russ should be defining Johnson as a tea party supporter and yet his ads have yet to do that. Of all the incumbent dems running I'm most worried about Feingold).
After a decisive win in Tuesday’s Republican Primary, businessman Ron Johnson now holds a seven-point lead over incumbent Democrat Russ Feingold in Wisconsin’s U.S. Senate race.
The latest Rasmussen Reports statewide telephone survey of Likely Voters shows Johnson picking up 51% support, while Feingold earns the vote from 44%. One percent (1%) of voters prefer some other candidate, and four percent (4%) remain undecided.
Johnson is backed by 94% of Republicans in Wisconsin, while 86% of the state's Democrats support Feingold. Johnson holds a nearly two-to-one lead among voters not affiliated with either major political party
Johnson is viewed favorably by 61% of Wisconsin voters and unfavorably by 33%. Those numbers include 29% who view the Republican Very Favorably and 19% who view him Very Unfavorably.
Feingold’s ratings are 51% favorable, 46% unfavorable. One-in-three voters (32%) shares a Very Favorable opinion of the longtime senator, while 28% view him Very Unfavorably.
Forty-nine percent (49%) of voters in Wisconsin approve of the job President Obama is doing, and the identical nubmer (49%) disapprove.

(PPP, I believe will be polling WI this weekend, so it will be interesting to see what their results are).

1. I bet the PPP results will show a much tighter race |
|
than red-brained Raz, and I hope Russ Feingold goes on to kick Johnson's butt in November.
He's one of the best ever and deserves support.

2. It's the fourth term curse--it was when Gaylord Nelson was running for a fourth term, too, against |
|
a horrible republican that he lost. I hope Russ can turn it around. Yes, PPP will probably show it closer, but my guess is they will show Russ behind too.

3. I miss Nelson. A lot is owed to that guy. |
|
And I'll second your good wishes for Russ to turn this one around.

4. Rasmussen loves to show a post-primary bump |
|
Since the Wisconsin primary just happened Tuesday, I'd say that this is what this lead is attributed to.

5. Do WI voters really not like Feingold for some reason? |
|
What has he done that he's trailing at this point? I always thought WI was a fairly progressive state.

6. Yeah, this one has been mystifying to me all along ... |
|
I'm in Pa. so I can't say about Wisky one way or another, but Feingold seems like a guy who SHOULD have very strong party support, and also have strong independent support ...

10. I can't figure this one out. |
|
Feingold carried WI by ten points in '04 when Kerry was barely able to prevail over * there. Obama ran up a healthy margin up there in '08. Not sure what in the world's causing WI to consider going teabagger. I can't think of anything regarding Feingold lately that would be causing Wisconsinites (besides those who already didn't like him) to sour on him.

12. I'm not at all certain. But, over the past few years Feingold has |
|
made a number of votes that were contrary to the majority Democrat positions, always claiming such things as ".. the bill didn't do enough so I'm voting against it". That might have lost some of his Dem support.
(Just a theory)

14. Maybe Feingold should stop voting with the Republicans so damn much |
|
He's so progressive that he ends up trying to block everything, and basically becomes another Republican vote to block Democratic bills.

16. I think Russ has made some bad decisions recently... |
|
He may have been right on some of those issues but that doesn't do any good when you lose your seat.

7. I doubt that it's really that large. |
|
I'm interested to see where PPP sees the race since Rasmuusen is the only one paying it much attention.
The 7-point gap is probably too high, but the sum of the Ras polls appears to hint that the majority of undecided voters lean against Feingold (which is consistent with most senate races that involve a well known incumbent).
Seven implies that the race is lost - and I don't agree... but it's definitely one of the races that the DNC needs to focus lots of energy on or it will be lost. When the "triage" is done, Feingold had better be one of the guys called in to the operating room.

8. Another teabagger in the Senate |
|
With AK, KY, UT, FL, that makes 5, and NV may deliver one as well. then there's the House.
When are you "Teabaggers aren't a threat" people going to wake up?

Perhaps I have rose colored glasses on, but I just want to believe that the good voters of Wisconsin will come to their senses and reelect Feingold once everything is said and done.

19. Nobody is trying to convince you he is behind, It's just a poll and a hunch of mine from living |
|
in the state. I think it's close, but winnable, but Feingold has to present a better media campaign than he has.
