A dedication thread to the poster ccharles000. |
|
Edited on Sun Sep-19-10 02:56 PM by vaberella
I started this thread because of the recognition given to Lady Gaga. I'm not star crazed, don't care about them, barely know their names and don't want to know their names. However, I don't want to marginalize them pushing things to the forefront in some way---even though I find what they do to be truly superficial. They get into some drama and all of their "good works" ends up forgotten in the grand scheme of their naked pictures taking over youtube or google.
I respect the fact that she says call the Senators, but this is not anything no one else has done----she has the loudspeaker to do it and is given more air time to do it. The good thing being that when she does what she does---in that way--then it motivates some of the "youth" to get on the side of what's right. Other than that...I see nothing really special about her.
However, there are many people on this site who have done the same, if not more. Since I had joined this site, there has been one real voice on DU who has kept us up to date on local elections in every state. On every elected official. We're talking about Mayors, Governors, Congressmen/women, and Senators and so on. This person has pushed it on DU, kept us up to date, pushed us to send money and get to know of elected officials in other states. Those more progressives than others and really trying to get DU motivated and rarely gets a post of appreciation and at times not even 1 rec---when it's deserved.
So in lieu of celebrity appreciation. I'll give some praise to some unsung heroes on DU (and he's one of many) who don't get as much praise, don't have the platform for it, but are the only ones who get me fired up and motivated.
Here's to you ccharles000. :toast:

One of the tings I like about him, is that I learn. I'm up to date on current affairs, and I can prioritize who I can help out when I can or to send a word of appreciation. I truly look forward to his posts.

I have been a fan of ccharles' for years. For someone so young, he is fabulously aware and seems to be as sweet as sugar and cute as a little bug.
And may I be so bold as to add JackBeck and TheBigotBasher to your list of DU heroes? They are also wonderful advocates and fantastic (if not the most prolific) posters on DU.
Happy to rec.

37. We are all FIGHTING the Media... |
|
Let's face it, the media as a whole is superficial. Instead of digging into and expanding on those things that would create an informed public of issues of importance to us, they thrive on controversy.
As such, it's more like a gappers' block at a car wreck. Too, they're feeding frenzy, always standing out in the wind and rain of a hurricane is so stupid they may as well be paparazzi. It's no wonder the 'low information' public is so misinformed. Until we expect accountability of these 'journalism graduates,' the news and information and 1st amendment will NOT work for our democracy.
Of course, part of the underlying problem has to do with ratings. Does this mean competition is bad? In this case, yes; when conpetition is bent toward the lowest common denominator of shock and awe and the gappers' block.
Proper news does NOT have to be boring, but today's journalists' bosses (editors) lack the creativity to to hold most of the public's interest otherwise.
Driving down the highway, would you rather see a car wreck and how bad it is, or would you rather admire the purple mountains majesty (or even pay attention to your driving)?
