"We are going to lose the Senate in a few weeks."
(Says the sad Teabagger King)

Republican Suicide

We are going to lose the Senate in a few weeks.

I’ve said it. I’m on the record. I hate to throw water on everyone’s hopes, but it is going to happen.

I think we are going to see a lot of good things on Election Day. I think Marco Rubio is going to win. I think Rand Paul is going to win. I think Joe Miller is going to win. I think there is an excellent chance Sharron Angle will win and a decent chance Christine O’Donnell will win. I think the Republicans will pick up ten seats in the Senate.

If you have had your morning dose of caffeine, and do some quick math, you will realize picking up ten seats would give the GOP a one-vote majority.

There are two irrefutable facts we face going into this election. Statists never voluntarily give up power or at least not without a struggle and Republicans are generally so stupid that they measure the drapes before they have the office and snatch defeat from the jaws of certain victory.

Even as the Democrats try a brutal triage to save their majority, another plan is in the works. They have done this before.

I can guarantee you; the statists have already been reaching out to try and made a deal to entice one or more RINO’s to switch. Olympia Snowe of Maine is probably their first target. She is almost certain to face a conservative challenger in 2012. She is hated by the Tea Party. Jumping parties might look attractive to her to avoid a heated primary. She certainly would feel more at home in the Democratic Party. Susan Collins, the other “sell-out sister” from Maine may also be thinking the same thing. She doesn’t have to run until 2014, but an attractive offer could make her jump ship.

John McCain is another possibility. He has admitted he thought about leaving the Republican Party in 2003 and we certainly would have been better off if he had.

<snip>

The good news is, we do not need to win the Senate.

<snip>

If the Republican leadership had any intelligence, and we know they do not, they should be talking to a couple of the most conservative Democrats and be enticing them to come over to the GOP. Ben Nelson of Nebraska might be one choice.

1. They pick up 4....
....Dorgan's, Lincoln's, Bayh's, and one wild-card.

So it is written, so it shall be.

And House losses will be less than 30 seats.

2. If he thinks O'Donnell will win, I want some of what he's smoking.
And Murkowski is going to go after Miller hard enough to split the vote...I hope.

19. On Daily Kos they said the Fec is checking into
some charges against her for financial reasons. At first I thought great make her drop out and then someone said they think the republicans themselves are taking her down to put Castle in so he can win.......

Someone should help her. And that does not mean help her the way she thinks things should be done.

Side note: I am still due beer and travel money and many good experiences. :D

4. Only question is: Can Olympia win a Democratic Primary?
It remains to be seen. Specter tried and couldn't.

10. She routinely gets a plurality of the
Democratic vote in a general election, so I see no reason why not, but there's no need for it.

If she ran Independent, she'd win in a heartbeat. Unenrolleds in Maine outnumber Dems and Reps together 5:3. Two of the last five governors here were independents. Perot beat Bush I in this state.

It's her seat for life. The safest seat in the Senate. Crist wishes he had her setup.

12. Doesn't matter.
She doesn't need Republicans to win, and ballot access for independents in this state is straightforward.

She runs as an I. She'd win a 3-way general 45-30-25 or better.

I'm a town and county committeeman, and the bane of our existence is the Democrat who votes the straight ticket -- except for Snowe.

9. So republicans have to defend 19 seats
whose senators are up for election. AND THEY ARE GOING TO PICK UP 10 OF THE 13 seats the Democrats have for election.

Paul is running for a republican seat. If he gets it there would be no pick up...Joe Miller if he wins would be a republican seat no pick up there. And the seat Rubio is running for isn't that a republican seat already. So even if they win wheres the pick up. I do not think the republicans are going to unseat 10 of our senators.. I don't think so....you can quote ME on that.

13. They aren't picking up 10 seats.
I think 5 to 8(as the far outlier) is likely. The wicked witch of Delaware blew it for them. That was a Dem seat that was gift-wrapped for them and the baggers gave it away.

Keep in mind that idiot Jud also thinks McMahon can beat the most popular Democratic current office holder in CT, Atty. Gen. Dick Blumenthal. CT if you did not know is widely thought to be the most liberal US state currently. The pro-choice pro-gun-control pro-civil-union (but also pro-conferring of full federal legal rights same as marriage) tax-cut-vetoing (she called it fiscally reckless) Republican governor is to the left of several nationally-prominent Democrats.

This is a race they think they can win with a pro-business fiscal-conservative who publicly praises the economic leadership of Dubya?:rofl:

I'm a smartass, I say inappropriate smartassed things. The super-godly (Founder of a religious political group) Tea-Partier who won the DE GOP nod for Biden's seat apparently admitted on Politically Incorrect years ago to dabbling in Wicca in college.

Not that there's anything wrong with that, but she's spinning fast enough at this point to power her home state if they hooked her to a turbine and she canceled appearances on the Sunday morning talk-circuit yesterday.

17. It's delusional to think McCain would switch parties now, after winning a primary
Edited on Sun Sep-19-10 09:13 PM by ShadowLiberal
What's that guy smoking in naming McCain as a guy who might possibly switch parties?

Maybe a decade ago, but not anymore, since he ran for president in 2008 McCain has completely disowned his old 'Maverick' image and left those independents and democrats who once admired him very disappointed in his numerous flip flops for blatant political gain (such as DADT repeal, Immigration, etc). Plus McCain has been way too vocal lately at voicing his opposition to stuff democrats are trying to do in the senate, like repealing DADT, for him to suddenly switch parties.

21. If the professional left was as hardcore as the teabaggers,
and was as willing and as able to primary up the Dem equivalent of Christine O'Donnell, sure, it's less than strategic at first glance, but in the long run, it shows a certain steel.

The Dems mock the "professional left" -- the Repubs don't mock the Teabaggers.

Sayin'!

24. I think he is overstating their wins...I don't think they will win many seats in the Senate, maybe 5
and not enough in the House to make much difference. They may do even worse than that, and THEY have a few "moderates" to worry about as well as we do.

We will see.

26. Why would a "Democrat" switch to the side with no power?
They would have to win 9 seats plus have two Democrats switch. Ain't gonna happen.
