I wish my taxes were going up at the end of they year |
|
I wish that I was going to have pay more taxes in the coming years. I wish I was in the group that are going to have to pay as a result of the bu$h tax cuts ending.
If I were in that group, it would a cause for celebration. If I were in that group it would mean that I was successful or criminal and that I was rich!
It would mean that my money troubles would over and I wouldn't have to worry if there is enough money to last to the end of the month.
My kids could go to any college they wanted and I could pay for it.
I sure wish I was in the group whose taxes were going up!
How about you?

1. Ditto. I would be so grateful to be earning enough to get a tax raise. |

Instead of this long slow spiral into homelessness that I've been going through since 2005.

4. And good luck to you too! |

I'm lucky to have a job. I went through a layoff last year but was lucky enough to be one of the few who was rehired. Thank God UC Berkeley has preferential rehire. Becoming homeless isn't the end. It's just the beginning of a much harder life.

The 'Great Recession' isn't over in the reality-based world in which I live.

6. I thought 250K was too high |
|
Obama consistently promised about those making over $250K wouldn't get a tax increase. I was always curious about that number because I would have put it much closer to $100K. I'm sure there was alot of demographics to his number choice, but I think more economics would have justified a much lower number.

7. I am sure it was demographics that drove that number |
|
But you can't tell that from the right wing media blitz falsely proclaiming that everyone taxes are going up.
He needs to be out there more with the message that this is only going to affect those making $250 and back up to pre-bu$h levels.

Very few individuals make over 250k as "income".
Most individuals who do, do so through capitol gains, which get taxed at a totally different rate.
There are individuals who make say 100-150k who live in high cost areas. And the expenses in those areas are higher.
The real issue is WEALTH.
Dick Cheney has so much wealth that he was able to DEFER SALARY. So do many EXECUTIVES and CEOs. By deferring salary, they reduce their taxes even lower. Why take money in salary now when you can defer it, never pay taxes on it, and then transfer that money to your kids, tax free (kill the estate tax) when you die.
The GOP wants you to worry about INCOME via WORK, while they DEFER that form of compensation, and keep the tax on all other "income" low.
The folks with a Salary between 100k and perhaps 200k as individuals are often NOT wealthy, at least not yet.
And those making MORE than that in INCOME generally have no choice, they have so MUCH investment income that they have to take it.
The curve on this starts to really rise at about 1 million dollars. Prior to that, anyone getting that kind of salary has no where to hide it ... it gets taxed ...but when you pass that amount ... the money has all kinds of places to hide.
So ... sure, we can go after the upper middle class, but they are generally NOT wealthy ... the REAL MONEY starts at incomes at and above 1 Million.
So ... starting the increase at 250k ... not a bad place to start.

8. As things currently stand you will get a tax increase. |
|
Taxes are scheduled to go up in all income brackets in 2011. No law has been passed or signed that would change that.
