TX Governor: Houston Chronicle endorses Democrat Bill White for Governor

The first major newspaper endorsement in the Texas governor's race goes to Democratic candidate Bill White. The endorsement comes from the Houston Chronicle.

In an editorial published in Sunday's edition, the paper said the former Houston mayor would bring stronger managerial credentials to the state government.

Republican incumbent Governor Rick Perry is not seeking endorsements from newspaper editorial boards this year.


(hmm, Perry's not seeking newspaper endorsements? maybe because he's afraid that many of them feel it's time for a change?)

Remember that Texas was a primarily Democratic state until Ronald Reagan started enticing many conservaDems to abandon their party and join the Republicans. This happened a lot in Texas.

And that movie Charlie Wilson's War? Charlie was a Dem, and IIRC, "Loonie" Louie Gohmert now represents a decent chunk of his old turf.

Meanwhile, though, I have a "Texans for Bill White" sign in front of my house. Interestingly, in a mostly-GOP neighborhood, I don't see any Perry signs -- at least not yet.

of Houston the newspaper there supports him even though he's a Dem.
