Dylan Ratigan "I consider myself a conservative."..color me shocked
NOT!
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/09/14/dylan-ratigan-i-consider-_n_716296.html

It may have come as a surprise to some of his viewers, but Dylan Ratigan said he sees himself as a conservative.

On his MSNBC show Monday, Ratigan was talking to a panel of guests about conservatism when he said, "I consider myself a conservative."

"Really?" asked a surprised Jonathan Capehart

1. A little more context please
Edited on Mon Sep-20-10 04:21 PM by Mefistofeles
We pride ourselves in providing context (more than one phrase) before judging a comment. Did he add a caveat or clarification to his statement? Video? Link?

9. Sure enough! Context shows he's a social liberal
Edited on Mon Sep-20-10 04:31 PM by Mefistofeles
His being conservative did not apply to social issues. I quote:

"Ratigan went on: "You can do whatever you want, the social I could care less, but when it comes to actual structure..."

I wish you had noted that part. Conservatives, on the other hand, do not think gays should do whatever they want, or people who want to relieve their pain in hospicals with marihuana should do whatever they want. Regarding abortions, conservatives do not want women to do whatever they want. In social areas, Ratigan is a liberal, like you and I. But hey, let's just throw in the "conservative" part and give people the usual lazy "go-watch-the-link-yourself" dismissal.

14. "I could care less" doesn't sound socially liberal.......
just means he doesn't give a fuck about social issue,
and I'm not sure why that's such a great thing....
and cares everything about fiscal issues, and on that one,
he is with the GOP.

But be in denial.....as there will be more coming from him
as we near the elections....like him boosting the GOP bigtime.

23. You prove my point. Conservatives give too much of a fuck
I do not give a fuck whether people smoke marihuana or not; whether a woman chooses to have an abortion or not. Etc. Conservatives on the other hand, want to meddle in every social aspect of our lives.

30. He loves Teabaggers......
and they aren't about anything more than social issues,
although they fake otherwise.

So it doesn't matter what he doesn't care about,
when he gives a forum to those who want to see some of us
without any rights.

Folks born yesterday willing to believe.....
the BS that Ratigan has to say went that a way :eyes: --->

Here's Ratygan retweeting the article:

Broad statements are rarely good. For you to prove that "he loves teabagger" you would have to show us a lot of evidence.

He doesn't give a fuck about social issues---ie gays can take a hike. Women who would like their abortions covered by insurance can take a hike. Women striving for equal pay can take a hike. Cause he's not here to fight for you. He doesn't give a shit----your defense of this scum is reprehensible and more so since you label him a social liberal while he doesn't care for everything social liberals fight for.

Not that I have watched him a lot recently, but enough to know that you all know the truth. You just don't like that he is critical of Obama's policies. So like Nancy said last week: If you are not for (happy with) (Obama), the assumption by some is you must be against (Democrats).

Sorry, dishonesty and spin just are so unattractive.

You really don't have to become like them (the Republican machine) to defeat them. You can nuance your discussion of Ratigan and make your point without lableing him "the enemy" characterizing him in a dishonest manner.

24. I've never liked his show ... it is little more that an anti-Obama rant ...
pretending to be objective. He never takes on the GOP in any meaningful way. Instead, he pounds Obama and the dems, and gives the GOP a pass.

So basically, you get Fox touting how awful Obama is, and Rati-jerk doing the same. Meanwhile, the GOP gets a pass.

Look at the love Ron Paul and Bill Mahr get around here.

As long as you're liberal on pelvic issues or isolationist on foreign policy, you get a free pass from some people.

That's why Ratigan is loved and guys like Bart Stupak and Bob Casey, who have 100% progressive voting records on labor and civil rights issues, get trashed.

he would side with the Republicans, and make no more bones about it.

Anyone who couldn't see through his bullshit, needs to refrain from commenting on politics....

what aooeared to be a hard core questioner who wouldn't let the people he was interviewing get away with blowing off questions and I loved that! It was about time SOMEONE held these people's feet to the fire and demanded answers. He's not so much like that anymore. Lately he's been doing a whole lot of Dem criticizing and I've stopped whatching him very much. If I wan't that crap I'd watch FOX.

All four of those presidents, including the three Democrats, despite their progressive actions, considered themselves "conservatives" too, in that they valued sound economic stability, good, secure jobs for the American people, and sane foreign policy. Does that make me a right winger or a Republican too?

73. Yup. When bowtie guy said that, I didn't EXPECT Dylan to refute him, as he himself
has said more than once that there's NO difference between the Bush and Obama administrations. I can't believe people are sticking up for him when he SAID he's a Conservative. I don't even watch his show anymore except times like yesterday just to see what he'd say. I wasn't surprised.
