I agree with you bigdarryl. I like hearing this good stuff and I like how frank Obama was with his responses today. As for the clips in the video...meh. I'm sorry to say if I find them contrived.

|
Edited on Mon Sep-20-10 06:53 PM by FrenchieCat
And I'm here to tell you that the one thing that many AAs abhore are those AAs who are willing to dump on the Black guy in office considering the current pile-on, especially during election season.
Rev. Wright came to speak at my church on Sunday, and even he didn't utter Barack Obama's name, as he chose not to have the packed audience turn on him on a dime, cause it would have..... cause folks are fucking sick and tired of everyone expecting the Magical Negro to have been sworn in....and those Black folks that believe in Obama-Magic are as insane as everyone else that is going with the theory that everything should be "peachy-keen" as we speak!
Even folks like Stavis Smiley have more or less stopped jumping onto the pile.
But hey, FYI......most folks of all colors are tired of defending someone who is dogged out like 24/7 from every corner, and talked about like a dog. I'm tired too!
But we defended Bill Clinton day after day, of something he had no business doing, so I'm not quite sure what some folks' problem with "defense" is now.

But hey, you can go right ahead and keep jumping onto the pile, my brother, cause Lord knows you been all up in there for a mighty long time now. So you're just doing your same ol' same ol'....nothing new.

24. Sure. While we may be disappointed with Obama for some of his political tactics, |
|
in the larger scheme of things---when all is said and done---we do understand the cards that this man has been dealt. That doesn't mean that we won't criticize him. That doesn't mean that we cannot think objectively. Despite what people say, blacks are not "Obamabots."
Yes, I am disappointed in many of Obama's decisions and his lack of political will, but I do understand, as a pragmatist--and a political scientist by trade--that he can only do too much constitutionally. If there are detractors in the Congress; if there are enemies who want to see him fail in Congress, then he cannot do much about that.
We have to understand and accept the political realities of the day. In the larger scheme of things, I think most reasonable people give Mr. Obama the benefit of the doubt, even while they chastise him. Doesn't mean that they don't still support him.

23. Yep. She doesn't represent this AA woman! Most of us are smart enough to understand two things... |
|
Edited on Mon Sep-20-10 07:39 PM by Liberal_Stalwart71
First, the mess wasn't created overnight, so you can't clean it up overnight.
Second, American Civics 101 teaches us that there are THREE, SEPARATE and DISTINCT branches of government (Federalist Papers #47), each having its own "check" that "balances" the powers of the other two branches (Federalist Papers #51).
Obama represents only one branch of government. He cannot constitutionally do it all by himself. I know people are used to how George "Dumbya" Bush did things, but this is a different time.
One correction, FC: It is 90+ of the African American community that supports this president because we know and understand that there are double standards. We gave Clinton 8 years, though many of his policies led us to this place. They gave Dumbya Bush 8 years and stood complacently by while he and the Republicans destroyed this country's economy and our standing all over the world. But, we can't give Obama and the Democrats two full years? Really? Why the double standard? We both know why...

in the black community rate him on transparency and keeping the public in general in the loop/part of the democratic process? My feeling is Obama has fallen critically short of his own standards in that; especially in not naming and shaming the Dem usual suspects (and the methods they've used) who've been undermining his policies.
These townhalls are great for Obama and the Dem Party; he should do as many of them as possible in my opinion. They clear away the propaganda better than any interview or speech can in the current climate.
(Edit to clarify: "undermined just because he's black" - Progressive policies are the target of course, but race-baiting has been the main tool the RW has used by combining it with the usual 'class warfare' and xenophobia wedge issues.)

Obama has not doen everything Progressives wanted to be done and he did not fix the worlds problems (that took over 20 years to create) in 18 months....but he did help prevent a depression and got us out of a recession and many of his legislative victories will help the people of this country incredibly. OBAMA DOES NOT NEED TO BE DEFENDED.....HE SHOULD BE THANKED FOIR DOING ALOT OF THINGS THAT ARE NOT ALL THAT POPULAR FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE PEOPLE OF THE USA.
Does anyone think another president could have done better than Obama considering he has had to deal with the repubs, tea party, racists, DINOs, FOX News, fillubusters, etc...? No way....give the guy a break....a term is not 18 months. Too many people, including that lady who said she cannot defend Obama anyomore expect EVERYTHING TO BE PERFECT in 18 FUCKING months...things take time. I am unemployed as well and I know that change takes time.

|
THANK-YOU PRESIDENT OBAMA!
Some people simply amaze me at how they can complain about President Obama the way they are when he literally saved us from a depression! Not only that he has passed several good, NOT PERFECT, pieces of legislation!
What it is people honestly think President Obama should stand on "purity" & pass nothing if he can't craft a bill exactly the way some of our fellow progressives want! Its pure horse dung! It is a shame!
On top of all that President Obama has to deal with Rupert Murdoch's media empire attacking him as a person a human being trying to destroy him on a personal level & the left is simple helping to get that job done as well! Talk about party unity! WTF?

|
The woman who whined that she hadn't seen any change at all is simply an uninformed person who has probably a minimal understanding about how laws get passed and have to go through many steps before Obama can sign into law.
He doesn't have a magic wand!
As for the guy who is whining about how he graduated from law school and suddenly realizes that it's going to get a little tough to just become a rich lawyer right out of school and with tuition fees he owes, that's not Obama's fault!

African American and Liberal votes for granted. He knows neither constituency has anywhere else to go. The administration openly mocks liberals and Obama is so scared of seeming to favor African Americans especially when faux is concerned that he'll fire any controversial outspoken African American in his administration out of fear of faux making it a story. Not to mention that he still hasn't done anything for Latinoes as far as amnesty is concerned and the LBGT community in the military and marriage. Looking back, it feels like 2009 was wasted arguing with teabaggers.

|
It comes as a directive from the Office of Administration/Human Resources.
It didn't come from the White House. It came from the United States Department of Agriculture. There is a proper chain of command and protocol that is always followed. It didn't come from the president. Both Van Jones and Shirley Sherrod said that they weren't fired by the president. Period. Stop watching and believing everything the Mainstream Corporate Media tells you.
