Senior Administration Official: Summers Expected to Leave White House after Midterms
September 21, 2010 4:37 PM

A senior administration official tells ABC News that National Economic Council director Larry Summers is expected to leave the administration after the mid-term elections.

Asked Monday about whether he would make any “course corrections” in his administration given the lack of satisfaction with economic growth -- with Summers and Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner specifically singled out -- President Obama said he had “not made any determinations about personnel. I think Larry Summers and Tim Geithner have done an outstanding job, as have my whole economic team. This is tough, the work that they do. They’ve been at it for two years, and they’re going to have a whole range of decisions about family that will factor into this, as well.”

Bloomberg News first reported the news of Summers’ expected decision

1. Does that mean it depends on who wins?
If we lose control he is leaving?

5. Is anybody keeping a list?
Thus far we have rumors of:
  • Summers leaving.
  • Gates retiring.
  • Emanuel leaving to run for mayor of Chicago.

We have confirmation of:
  • Warren being appointed to set-up Consumer Protection.

Anything else on the horizon for big sea-change in terms of approach? I feel like I'm missing a few big items out of the WH. I'd like to see Geithner, Duncan and Salazar go too, but this is a good start.
