CNN: Chamber of Commerce's Tom Donohue not so sure GOP takeover a done deal
Sources: Business lobbyist not so sure GOP takeover a done deal

Sources say Tom Donohue, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce president, says the election will be anti-establishment.

Washington (CNN) -- Top White House officials believe expectations were set so low for Democrats that they just may keep control of the House and Senate by grinding out victories in individual races, and there are signs emerging that the most powerful Republican business lobbyist may privately agree with that assessment.

CNN has learned that Tom Donohue, the powerful president of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce who has vowed to spend more than $75 million on key House and Senate races, has privately told colleagues in recent weeks he believes Democrats will just barely hold on to the House majority.

Two sources familiar with the conversations said Donohue has privately said he's gone over every single key race in the House, and he believes Republicans will lose a few seats -- losses he believes they don't see coming -- because it is more of an anti-establishment election than an anti-Democratic election.

Chamber spokesman JP Fielder told CNN he could not comment on private conversations Donohue may or may not have had, but stressed that this election season has already been highly unpredictable.

1. And so it begins. But the real question, do we WANT it?
Having a polarized Congress becoming even MORE polarized and making Dems look like they STILL cant get anything accomplished, is this really what we want? .... If the GOP gains control, then the President has a bad guy to blame ... and Dems could pivot off of that for a big win in '12 like Reagan did.

But, who wants to be impeached?

Between the proverbial rock and a hard place.

2. Congress will continue to be polarized no matter what. It's what the R's do.
A Democratic House is worth fighting for, especially with fewer Blue Dogs.

6. Do you want Speaker Boehner?
When the Democrats retain both houses of congress, the teabaggers are going to go insane - showing everyone what lunatics they really are. They'll run even further to the right - make even more outrageous statements (jail for women who have abortions maybe?). My hope is it'll put a stake through their black heart.

10. Having power is always better than not having power
Obama couldn't convincingly blame the Republicans in the House for everything unless they did something REALLY stupid and shut down the government, and the damage to the country from that wouldn't be worth the short-term political gain.

12. It Wasn't Reagan That Used Congress As A Foil. It Was Clinton.
The Republicants still had the Senate in 84.

If the economy doesn't improve by 012, and God help all of us if it doesn't, Obama is going to need a foil and a Republicant Congress would be a great one.

What if the Democrats control all the levers of government and we still have a near double digit unemployment rate?

5. Of course they are, but Donohue's fear of GOP failure may indeed be realized.

7. The GOP has bet everything on November
If they dont at least meet or exceed expectations, the media will be forced to for the first time to actually focus on the republicans and what is going on in their party. If the democratic voters prove in November that we haven't disappeared and that we still support this president and are willing to vote for dems, we can change the narrative.

Everything has been fucked in the media because of this supposed massive conservative wave and once we prove that its bullshit the GOP is screwed. They have done everything they have done over the past 2 years in the hopes they could take back congress and derail the presidency, if we keep the majority their plan will have failed.
