Poll--PA Senate: Toomey: 50% Sestak 43% |
|
I think this senate race potentially can really tighten. As it is most polls are showing Sestak within striking distance--and both candidates have similar fav/unfav ratings:
Quinnipiac 9/15-19/10; 684 likely voters, 3.8% margin of error Mode: Live telephone interviews (Quinnipiac release)
Pennsylvania
2010 Senate 50% Toomey (R), 43% Sestak (D) (chart)
Favorable / Unfavorable Pat Toomey: 44 / 31 Joe Sestak: 44 / 34
Toomey is winning 86 - 9 percent among Republicans and losing 87 - 7 percent among Democrats. He holds a commanding 54 - 36 percent lead among independent voters, which provides his current lead overall.
There is a very large gender gap in the Senate race, with Toomey ahead among male likely voters 58 - 37 percent and trailing among women likely voters 51 - 40 percent. The gender gap on the president's job performance is even wider with women approving 50 - 43 percent, while men disapprove by more than two-to-one, 66 - 31 percent.

I love Sestak, but the name just is not there for people ...
Toomey has been positioning for this run for years now ...
Bad cycle and Toomey is flying completely under the radar while effectively miscasting Sestak with his advertising ...
I was ever so grateful when state gave Santorum the bums rush, but ...
He DID get elected senator two prior times ...
Toomey is a friggen weasel, he is REAL bad, but has gone underground for the last two years or so for this run ...

3. Polls show that Sestak has a chance. Morning Call poll the other day had him down by only 3. |

I like Sestak on his merits, but I dread having to live under the reign of hard right senator again ...
I think Onarato is clearly the best choice for governor, but if I had to pick, I would want the senatorship in dem hands over the governor ...

5. Toomey started to define Sestak 5 months ago; since then, Toomey has been swamping |
|
the TV with ads. There are also continuous ads by Club for Growth and the Kochs (two of their groups). You see a Sestak ad once in a awhile, but it's running 8-1 Toomey in the number of ads here (W PA). Toomey's supporters have several gigantic billboards as well.
