(R)asmussen Poll--CA Governor: Brown 47% (+5) Whitman 46% (no change)

(another poll showing Brown surging despite Whitman's $$)

Democrat Jerry Brown and Republican Meg Whitman continue their neck-and-neck battle in the latest Rasmussen Reports statewide survey of California’s gubernatorial contest.

The latest statewide telephone survey of Likely Voters shows Brown picking up 47% of the vote, while Whitman draws support from 46%. Four percent (4%) prefer some other candidate, and three percent (3%) are undecided.

Earlier this month, Whitman held a modest 46% to 42% edge over Brown, getting a small bounce from her GOP primary win.

When leaners are excluded from the totals, Brown, the state's current attorney general, picks up 46% to Whitman’s 44%. Two weeks ago, Whitman edged Brown by 46% to 42% without leaners. Leaners are those who initially indicate no preference for either of the candidates but answer a follow-up question and say they are leaning towards a particular candidate. Rasmussen Reports now considers results with leaners the primary indicator of the race.

1. So in reality, Brown is up 5 or 6 points?
Rasmussen has traditionally been the last-resort poll of conservatives looking for solace.

2. possibly but then they had a poll of West VA senate where the dem was up by 7 while PPP, considered
to be more of a democratic firm showed the Dem down by 3, so hard to say.
