1. He has not gone mad. He has a very unpopular retirement reform that he is trying to pass and his

approval rate is in very low, so he is pandering to the far RW. Nothing more.

2. No, but I've heard that Karzai may be off his meds (seriously). I think I saw it on

Andrea Mitchell. They're saying he's bipolar and acts erratically when he doesn't take his medication. I had a bipolar friend who always liked to play with the timing, loved the feeling of going into that manic phase and intended to take the medication before it got "too late". You can guess how that turned out. Heartbreaking condition.
