I just flipped through the GOP's "Pledge to America" ....
It has lots of pictures. And as I flipped through it, I started to notice that not one of the pictures includes a person of color (unless you count John Boehner).

And then ... when I was done the first pass, I thought ... "I don't recall seeing any young people".

So I flipped through it again.

Not one young person.

So what do I see ... white people, only white people, most of whom have gray hair.

If this was their "pledge to America", this left most of America out.

(btw ... I'm a mid 40s white guy).

The link to their "pledge" ...

2. Holy Shit they Pledge to give the rich a 20% tax break on their income?
"We will further encourage small businesses to create jobs by allowing them
to take a tax deduction equal to 20 percent of their income."

9. a DEDUCTION equal to 20% of INCOME?
so if my small business has income of $1,000,000 (i wish) i get a $200,000 deduction on top of being able to offset my $900,000 of expenses, so i get a $100,000 profit on my business but report a $100,000 loss, which means not only do i pay no taxes on the small business, but i get a break on my personal taxes as well?

is that what these fools are suggesting?

20. They are shameless - and I hope that is highlighted - as well as
the large companies and their owners who are counted as "small Business". (here's a Daily Kos diary on some of these small businesses - including some that are extremely profitable and not small - http://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/9/23/904477/-Small-Business )

I hope the Democrats highlight this - as it shows how the Republicans are really NOT interested in deficit reduction. What do they intend to cut to give people, like the owner's of the Chicago Tribune, this additional 20% cut?

4. Their "Contract with America" did not
fly the last time. And any senior that buys into their logic is only concerned about "their" Social Security. Screw the younger generation.

We are so overwhelmed by the undereducated FAUX news masses that have no inclination to check the facts for themselves. They are like sponges. In one ear and taken for Gospel, then repeat it to all the remaining lemmings they come in contact with.

It makes me sick. I got into an argument with an aunt of mine, whom I see rarely see, as she lives in another state. She is going through chemo and radiation, but when she said the Democrats were ruining this country I flipped. I told her I would not let her get away with that statement. After I calmed down I asked her and her daughter just what their problem was with this Administration. It boils down to "rumors" about her military insurance being taken away and the state rules of Medicaid, her daughters concern, which they where confusing with Medicare. I told her to turn off FAUX News and find another source.

We left on good terms, but the hair on my neck actually raised when she started in on Obama. I guess I had my fill of the lies being spread regarding our President and had to speak up.

7. America is really a homogeneous country, ain't it?
A country filled with balding white guys (and one orange guy) over 40. At least that's the impression one gets from this piece of birdcage liner.

You'd think whoever put this crap together would have included at least one picture of children for emotional appeal, especially with all the hand-wringing about the debt. It's a rather shocking omission. They had room for a full-page photo of the Marlboro Man, but not a single person under 20.

14. This is who wrote this crap..
" The Republican Party's 21-page blueprint, "Pledge to America," was put together with oversight by a House staffer who, up till April 2010, served as a lobbyist for some of the nation's most powerful oil, pharmaceutical, and insurance companies.

In a draft version of The Pledge that was being passed around to reporters before the official release, the document properties list "Wild, Brian" as the "Author." A GOP source said that Wild -- who is on House Minority Leader John Boehner's payroll -- did help author the governing platform that the party is unveiling on Thursday. Another aide said that as the executive director of the Republican leadership group American Speaking Out, Wild's tasks were more on the administrative side of the operations.

Until early this year, Wild was a fairly active lobbyist on behalf of the firm the Nickles Group, the lobbying shop set up by the former Republican Senator from Oklahoma, Don Nickles. During his five years at the firm, Wild, among others, was paid $740,000 in lobbying contracts from AIG, the former insurance company at the heart of the financial collapse; $800,000 from energy giant Andarko Petroleum; more than $1.1 million from Comcast, more than $1.3 million from Exxon Mobil; and $625,000 from the pharmaceutical company Pfizer Inc."

They are just marketing to the people they represent. Why bother trying to sell your snakeoil to people that aren't interested.

22. After reading your post, I think I found them too ... maybe
Page 12 ... I zoomed it to 600%, and in the back, I think I see one woman who looks hispanic, and one who might be black. Although the lighting isn't great.

But it does appear, that you may have found the GOP's version of WALDO.

19. Great observation
Edited on Fri Sep-24-10 07:23 AM by karynnj
The stunning thing is that this was likely put together by some ad agency. It likely IS intentional. You wonder if it is intended to be almost subliminal - a return to "our America". It is interesting in a day and age where all commercials seem to routinely balance the people shown to be diverse, that they obviously intentionally did this.

You almost always get it.
