Democrats don't believe in their own policies, and don't want to talk about them.

Republicans do.

Rachel Maddow from last night:

Republicans continue to prove over and over again they are not at all embarrassed by stuff like this . Democrats, on the other hand are proving themselves to be afraid of their own shadows. they're essentially refusing to campaign. that's a surefire way to win. What could they campaign on? Well, Republicans apparently think that democrats could be campaigning on reforming the health care system in this country, because a ton of the stuff that Democrats did in the health care bill Republicans put in their new "Pledge to America" and are running on that as if it is their own record, as if they're not talking smack about health reform. They're running on those ideas, because they think the American people will like those ideas.

Democrats, on the other hand, actually implemented those ideas and they're refusing to run on them. With the stimulus, it's the exact same thing. Republicans are trying to bring home to their constituents all the economic benefits of the stimulus plan, all of the jobs that it will create. while talking all sorts of smack about the stimulus saying it doesn't work, it's a waste, trying to take credit for the fact it does work. Republicans have no problem running on the Democrats' record. But Democrats apparently will not. As we said on this show last night, Democrats have a weird inferiority complex when it comes to campaigning. They like their own ideas better, but they like the way Republicans run for office better. Well, The way they're fronted for office this year is running on the achievements of this year. Democrats, if you don't believe enough in yourself, just copy what the Republicans are doing, because they're running on your record.

3. That comment completely twists Rachel Maddow's point.
"Democrats don't believe in their own policies, and don't want to talk about them, Republicans Do!"

Maddow:

"Republicans have no problem running on the Democrats' record."

"Democrats, if you don't believe enough in yourself, just copy what the Republicans are doing, because they're running on your record."

5. Rachel was pointing out: Why aren't Democrats Running in Every State Running on HCR/

Financial Reform?

In my state our best Dems are worrying about Obama coming to campaign for them. And, neither is out there pushing the HCR in their Campaigns nor the weak, watered down, Financial Reform.

the Dems I'm voting for and have given to here in my State are hitting the Repugs for Stopping Reform for watering down Health Care and not doing ENOUGH to Reform Wall St. ...but they aren't mentioning Obama or Championing what Dems did because they know how weak it is. They know they can't run on "sweeping reform...or change you can believe in." Because...it didn't happen. And, they know the Repugs are going to distort them.

Obama wasn't controversial enough to give our Dems here a HOOK that can grab the Voters. And, they always in my Red State are at an disadvantage. (our Dem Candidates) We went Blue for Obama ...but we've turned back red.

The two running are Progressives and NOT BLUE DOGS...but they are running away from HCR/FINACIAL REGS...

Sad...but it's true.

Edited for typo

9. Why would any of them run on health care when they've been
vilified all along by some for voting yes? It wasn't good enough and the naysayers have never stopped the carping. Now suddenly they're dirt all over again because they won't stand up for what they accomplished? And if they did they'd be beaten down for that too. It would be funny if it weren't so sad. If people had stood behind them this would be a different story....but as we know nothing is good enough.

Don't expect them to like being kicked around, that's insanity.

10. I thought Health Care Reform and Financial Reform were Obama's Top TWO Achievements!
If you are a President who had what he had to deal with...given mess country was in...WHY ISN'T HE out there CAMPAIGNING 24/7 for CANDIDATES in STATES...rather than doing these "TOWN HALLS" with selected folks where he just campaignes on his Presidency and what he did "against all odds."

Is it that Dem Candidates don't WANT him working for them..because they are in RED States and are running as BLUE DOGS or does it mean even the Progressive DEMs are running from what he achieved because the Tea Party has co-opted or Corrupted his Message.

If "Tea Partiers" could corrupt Obama's Achievements ...then it seems DEM PARTY is NOT DOING THE WORK TO GET THE COUNTER VOICE OUT THERE!

WHERE IS THE DEM PARTY? IT can't COUNTER a Corrupt "Teabagger Movement" that's partially Racists and Wholly funded by Corporate Repugs from Wall Street!

How is it that Obama is so weak after bailing out Wall Street and Media Interests that he can't CALL IN HIS CHIPS! "I SAVED YOUR BUTT BUDDY...NOW...YOU SAVE MINE!"

11. They are, but remember neither one was good enough.
The message was corrupted by the left before the votes were done, it was another tear down of the Democratic Party and now are they sorry? No, now they just turn to the next one in line and bitch about that too.....the President isn't working hard enough, they aren't getting the message out.

The message is out, it's being screamed by the naysayers....nothing is going to be good enough, it's all Obama's fault, rah-rah'ing the teabaggers and their 'movement'.

Obama's not weak and neither are the Democrats....but the loud voices of disdain have the floor...and they're going to do their damnedest to tear it all down. Shame on them.

13. jaxx....I'm sorry but this just doesn't ring as whole truth...
"The message was corrupted by the left before the votes were done."

Can you give some back up for what you say? Not links but just your general sense of where you ever heard the message by Dems being corrupted before the votes were done!

Many of us were working so hard for the Public Option in HCR Bill that we were reading other sites where Dem Activists were working the staffers to try to find out what was going on since there were so many who believed that Obama SUPPORTED a Public Option that they and we were trying to give him the support he needed by blogging and carrying on so that Congress/Senate would listen to us.

I don't remember ANYONE on the Progressive Left corrupting Obama before the votes were done. But, many of us did try hard to work Congress to get that Public Option and we were correct in trying to pressure Our New President to Support what he said he would support when he campaigned.

15. Be glad to.
When single payer didn't make it, the public option became the great hope. When the house passed it and the senate played their games...and before the vote was taken...it was Obama didn't want it, didn't fight for it, and no he couldn't vote for it. It was trashed, the whole health care bill was trashed. It didn't have this and it didn't have that, and even though it would help millions of people it should never be passed. We all know how the rhetoric went down...like a lead balloon. And when it was passed it was trashed again and it's still being trashed today.

You want to trash someone about the public option, trash the senate...they never had the votes for it.
And piss on that trying to pressure "Our New President" bit. He freakin didn't get to vote. The other option was can the whole bill, and that would be a monumental failure on the Democrats part. So it passed and was passed in the house and the President signed it into law.

And it's still being trashed.

17. Single Payer really wasn't even in the Options when Obama proposed his HCR..though.
I see you feel strongly for supporting Obama as more the Proposer and Bystander.

Many of us don't agree...and he did have to come in at the last minute to push it through. His style as a President is much different from how he governs. Some of us bought the "Change Thing" to literally and I realize that there are folks who think we were too innocent about politics to believe him...and we shouldn't have.

Thanks for your reply, though. And, yes, I do trash the Senate more than the House for why we got this weak bill. I just remember how Lyndon Johnson and Ronald Reagan pushed through votes (also Bush II who got it all) so I'm not innocent about politics...but know that Obama didn't come in with a "weak hand"...but a MANDATE...and he kind of left it to Congress to sort out. If he had vigorously supported reducing health care costs he wouldn't have allowed the Insurance Lobbyists to write the bill. And, now the insurance companies are raising costs to all of us...

18. Please, don't make me laugh about the single payer issue.
It's still being pushed on here daily, like Obama could have had it if he'd just gotten up off of his lazy ass and asked for it. That ought to cover the subject of 'proposer and bystander' for you.

The change thing is real, health care passed, financial reform passed....if that's not change what is?

Johnson and Reagan are dead and this ain't their congress. Today it's a meaner, much more partisan congress than we've ever seen before. An attempt to compare is bastardizing the very idea of comparison. Obstruction didn't happen to those two....it took a Black man in the White House to get that going.

Your final words are just more trashing....we've gone full circle. For nothing.

16. I didn't like the final bill, but there's a case to be made for it
an even stronger case to be made for increasing the Democratic majority and cleaning out the Blue Dog trash.

8. "some red districts?" Care to expound on this?
Do you know how much of AMERICA is STILL RED? And if my state is flagging on Obama Support (we were Red to Purple/Blue) and I'm the "Southern Strategy" they were so proud they won...

What do you think of the OTHER STATES who are in much worse shape than mine? We were frugal here with much less Mortgage/Banking Fraud..but the Chamber of Commerce and the Usual are out there supporting the Tea Baggers. And, "Blackwater" was in MY STATE along with OTHER MUCHO BIG DEFENSE CONTRACTORS.

Other states are co-opted and corrupted by the same Defense Contractor, Weapons Manufacturing Contracts, and other BIG GOVT. PROGRAMS...so for us to turn Purple/Blue took a TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF WORK BY DEMS/PROGRESSIVES to do what we did for OBAMA!

He has not seemed to care so much about that CHANGE to give US the HOOK to counteract the TEABAGGERS who are out there 24/7 in my State, NOW! EMBOLDENED ...by the CHANGE that DID NOT HURT THEM!

BLUE CROSS is also a BIG FACTOR in MY STATE...

14. There 'ya go...kind of proves that Repugs are running on what was done...
as hypocrites. Either they run for it or want it Repealed...and that's the Repug Way. (although our Dems have been known to be duplicitous...many times, also.)
