Jack Conway pulls even with Rand Paul in Bluegrass Poll

Democrat closes a 15-point gap

By Joseph Gerth • jgerth@courier-journal.com •
September 25, 2010

Democrat Jack Conway has cut sharply into Republican Rand Paul's once-commanding lead in Kentucky's U.S. Senate race, moving into a statistical tie with a little more han
five weeks before Election Day, according to the latest Courier-Journal/WHAS11 Bluegrass Poll.

The poll shows that Conway, the state's attorney general, is now appealing to voters who say they are neutral on the tea party — Paul's base of support.

And Conway is building a significant lead among women, who earlier were almost evenly split between the two candidates.

According to the poll, Paul leads Conway 49 percent to 47 percent, with 4 percent undecided. That lead is well within the poll's 4 percentage point margin of error.
The poll, conducted by SurveyUSA, questioned 611 likely voters Tuesday through Thursday.

The previous Bluegrass poll, released the first week of September, showed Paul leading Conway 55 percent to 40 percent. Jay Leve, SurveyUSA's chief executive officer, said it's hard to tell exactly what the shift in the race means.

that seems I noticed the pattern every time one of our candidates is leading in a race another poll gets released saying the rethug is ahead

2. "...its hard to tell exactly what
the shift in the race means." Now there's a statement that requires ingenuity and careful thinking to arrive at an answer.

12. Not being from Kentucky I'm no expert but Conway
doesn't seem to be a hell of a lot better. To me he seems like another "blue dog".

Rand is the genuine article - a fucking right wing nut job. Conway is no Grayson but a legit progressive (insofar as one can be progressive and win a statewide contest in KY) nontheless.

14. Not really a blue dog, but no Wellstone, either
Rand Paul, on the other hand, is nothing more than a faux-libertarian douchenugget who wants to end all government programs...except Medicare, of course, which he benefits from, being a "board-certified" ophthalmologist.

Conway's endorsement by law enforcement throughout the state has been a big part of his surge, along with some of Paul's weirder comments, like non-violent crimes shouldn't be against the law.

15. Conway has been hammering Paul on the drug issue
Conway has had some great ads with cops and really has been killing Paul on the airwaves on the drug issue. And it appears to be working!

16. I Have A Good Feeling Conway's Gonna Pick This Off
He's a good candidate and he's surging at the right time.
