DE Senate: O'Donnell "Why aren't monkeys still evolviing into humans?"
She is the future of the GOP.

Last night, Bill Maher showed another Christine O'Donnell clip. She said, "Evolution is a myth." I think her proof is in her question: "Why aren't monkeys still evolving into humans?"

And, let's talk about GOP evolution. McCain inflicted Palin on the world. And, Palin gave us O'Donnell, among others.

2. That's not quite the killer blow some think.

It should be of course, if everyone valued rationality in themselves and their political leaders, but without even bringing out the teabaggers=dumb schtick, it's actually quite a persuasive argument to those who are not particularly scientifically minded (which given the state of US science education at the HS level, is quite a lot). It's one of those soundbites that sound persuasive to the masses, and remember we live in a country where more people believe in divine creation tahn accept evolutionary science.

So in short by using this as an O'Donnell = staggeringly dumb weapon, while technically quite accurate, we are in fact solidifying her credentials of agreeing with the misinformed majority, as well as showing them what in their minds is O'Donnell asking a pointed and telling question. Without the time or audience connection in a political spot to explain WHY this is dumb, it will actually have the opposite effect.

3. You're right. This is the problem that arises in using the shotgun method of
O'Donnell's clips against her - they actually can backfire. There was an interesting blog this morning (didn't think to get the site, sorry) that opined that beating the drum about O'Donnell not paying her mortgage and other money troubles might very well resonate in her favor from voters who are now experiencing economic hard times. We need to be careful to make sure that the attacks we launch on her are actually going to achieve the desired result. Otherwise, we just look like bullies beating up on poor little Christine (who coincidentally has had to deal with many of the problems I voter have had myself).

5. >>> HOW does she propose solving such problems?
'She has no affirmative approaches, and most of us can't use campaign contributions to pay our mortgages.'

6. I agree - I really think that any thing else Maher finds is more likely to hurt than help
He is having fun - and the Democrats could be blamed for it.

4. How does she know they aren't?
Reminds me of my ex-sister in law. We went to see King Tut's treasures and she marveled that animals and people looked so similar to modern man and animals after that long.

Some things you just can't answer because there's simply too much ignorance to try. You'd have to go back to the beginning and that would take way too long. Way too much effort for the zero return that would transpire. I think O'Donnell is that kind of person.

8. I sometimes use this as an explanation to young children...
take an acorn or seed of any kind. Plant it, what do you get? From ONE seed you get: a tree, leaves, fruit, ALL FROM THE SAME SEED!.It helps show that we come from the same common ancestor and each took a different direction.

16. How does she know they aren't?
Does she really expect it to happen before her eyes?

Of course, they would be unlikely to evolve into humans again, more likely something different, odds and random chance being what it is.

Edited on Tue Sep-28-10 08:03 AM by niceypoo
I tell them, 'modern humans killed off the last of them at the end of the last ice age about 12,000 years ago. They were called, 'neanderthals.'
