11. 27000 on the Library Mall is amazing.
It's the size of a football field when you include both streets and adjacent lots.

I remember it when the ground was so saturated with tear gas that your eyes would burn just walking from the library to the Union for weeks.

(And sitting in the back of a cop car in handcuffs. But that's another story.)

22. 27,000 - at one rally in Madison - is half the size of the *national Tea Party*
Do you remember the sit-in about Dupont? I saw a documentary on PBS about it.

21. He needs to do this all the time
He'll find it makes his job easier by a mile or two. Instead of back room deals just take it to the people. Let the Republicans see how much Americans are backing him.

Oh, and if it sticks in their craws to see his immense popularity well then, I won't be unhappy.

And nothing you say can dampen the spirits of Democrats here, either. Democrats will turn out to vote, too.

33. I actually don't ever remember Bush drawing 27,000 two years into his presidency.
Maybe, MAYBE he came sorta close to that in 2004 for his reelection bid - but certainly not in a midterm. Nope.

38. Not in 2004 - he had small pre-selected, not public appearances
Edited on Wed Sep-29-10 04:59 PM by karynnj
Kerry broke all records before him and his crowds were enthusiastic and engaged - and could be seen mostly - just on CSPAN, because, of course, seeing Candy Crowley speak to CNN's audience from the deserted parking lot was far more newsworthy. Imagine had the networks covered those happy, hopeful rallies that got progressively bigger. That is what usually gives campaigns momentum.

39. Yes. I remember small crowds for Bush.
He generally held those faux town halls, so maybe a couple thousand at the most.

Certainly in 2002, he could probably never drum up the type of support Obama saw last night. In 2006, he was too toxic to even get most of that.

37. Give us a link to a 27,000 crowd for that someone else for a midterm election.
If you don't have one then it didn't happen.

We all know it didn't happen, so don't bother. Really. And we all know what your point is.
